As soon as Luke saw the distress in Kegan's face as he went into labor without his mate present, his mind flashed back to his old pack.
There were always pregnant Omegas in the North River pack, oftentimes the ones who were pregnant and alone had been rejected after experiencing some kind of rape or assault that made their mate not want them. Some of them were taken in by families that could spare them time, but the ones who weren't that lucky got left behind in a spare, cold house where the unwanted Omegas were left behind.
Luke didn't like to interact with other wolves in his pack because he was often abused by other Alphas, but thankfully the abuse had gotten to be less because he had gotten stronger and become a warrior.
He was walking down the street to go to his parent's house that was left to him when they were killed. As he was almost there, someone ran out and grabbed his arm.
Luke was horrified for a minute, using his strength and pinning his attacker against the nearest wall. It was then that he realized the person whose grabbed him was a young Beta who only had fear in her eyes.
"Sorry! I didn't mean to scare you!" she squeaked, holding her hands up. "I thought you were my brother!"
"Is there a problem?" Luke asked, taking in the terrified look of the Beta's face.
She reminded him so much of his little sister.
The Beta nodded in fear. "My little brother, he's an Omega and doesn't have a mate and he just went into labor! I don't know what to do!" she said, tears beginning to leak from her eyes. "Please, help."
Luke nodded. "Show me where he is."
He'd never been interested in being a doctor, but his mom was a pack doctor and always made him learn how to deal with cuts, broken bones, and he had been present at several births and knew what his mom did.
Luke tensed up when they reached the Omega house and heard screaming coming from the inside. He ran in and found a few Omegas trying to comfort the screaming boy, and Luke felt his blood boil when he saw that the boy couldn't have been older than seventeen.
"It's okay, calm down," the Beta said, kneeling next to her brother. "I have someone here to help."
Luke knelt beside him and the Omega panicked even more when he saw that the person coming to help him was an Alpha. "It's okay, I'm going to help you," Luke cooed, grabbing the back of the boy's neck and squeezing it to calm him down. "When did he go into labor?"
"About a half an hour ago and he's in a lot of pain," the Beta said, wiping a cool rag on her brother's forehead. "And he's bleeding."
Luke scooped the boy up. "I have a house that no one uses except for me and there's a fire going. It's too cold here for someone who is about to have pups," he said, nodding for the Beta to follow him. "Your other brother, is he an Alpha?"
"No, he's a Beta," she said, rushing after Luke. "He does patrol so he should be back soon."
"Good, he needs to get to my house as soon as possible. If he were an Alpha I'd make him stay away because they're related he's bound to be protective and an Alpha would attack me," Luke explained, kicking open the door to his house and laying the Omega on his couch in the den so he could set a blanket on the ground.
He then moved the Omega there and took off his pants completely so he could make sure that there wasn't an abundance of blood, which thankfully, there wasn't.
Luke told the Beta what he needed and then got to work calming the Omega down.
"Take a deep breath, you're going to be okay," Luke promised, wiping the sweat from his forehead. "Do you know how many you're having?"
