Chapter 254

Jax's Point of View

Two weeks had passed since Rowan and I put an offer in on the house we looked at. We'd closed on the house last night and were moving in today. The  sellers were more than willing to rush the closing due to our hefty cash down payment. Helping Rowan with the kids and packing was the distraction we both needed right now. I was still trying to get a grip on the situation with Clay and Gemma and the letters from John. The more I stayed away from them right now the better. Rowan's been stressing herself out about something going wrong with the baby and the pregnancy. I think seeing Deacon bonding with Avery over cars and the club has been behind a couple of her odd but adorable little outbursts of anger too. Avery and Deacon actually went away this weekend on a trip to check out one of the last known addresses Juice found for Tree. Turns out she wasn't still in Charming like Deacon had assumed. When they came back Avery would be moving into our old place, having decided to rent it out and stay in Charming for awhile now that he was prospecting.

He's been living at a motel in Lodi paying by the week up until now. It was kinda weird to be leaving the old house, but time to do so. That house was full of mostly bad memories. Overdosed. Murder. It was time to start over in a new place with Rowan. I kinda got the sense she never felt truly comfortable being in our old house because it was mine and Wendys. She never said anything about it though, but I never expected her to either.

"Lift with your knees, fellas. Lift with your knees." Lena called out from behind us. A huff of air escaped my lips as Opie and I sat the dresser we were attempting to lift down on the concrete driveway.

Resting my arm on the dresser, I glanced at my best friends wife."What exactly is it you're doing to help?" I questioned, wiping sweat off my face with the hem of my shirt. She'd parked her butt in an old camping chair shed helped "unpack" the moment she got here. Opie wasn't letting her lift a finger while she was pregnant though. We had that in common with our girls.

Rowan has been puking on and off since last night from morning sickness and was huffy with me this morning when I wouldn't let her lift even a hamper of clothes. I promised myself I was going to make this pregnancy go as smooth as possible for her this time around. If that made me have to be her bitch and wait on her and the kids hand and foot I'd do it in a heartbeat.

Lena sat leaned back and relaxed in the camping chair with a plate of nachos in her hand at the edge of the garage. The doors shading her from the sun. Leo was toddling around with Abel and Rae blowing bubbles, while Henry and Ellie were helping Rowan unpack boxes inside in the kitchen.

"I'm delegating, obviously." Lena clapped back, shoving nachos in her mouth.

Opie grinned and shook his head. "Where did the nachos come from? They don't have any food here."

We had the basics but Rowan was gonna have to make a store run tonight or tomorrow morning.

"I made them at home." Lena deadpanned, like it was the most obvious answer.

"Dear god, you live so close you're within walking distance of my house." I walked over and touched the bottom of the plate. "What did you do, power walk back over here? The plates still fucking hot. When did you even run home and make those?" I chuckled, causing Opie to grin.

Lena flicked my hand away from her food and shoo'd me away.

"You will never know. I'm a nacho ninja, Teller." Lena quipped, smirking at me. "There's a trail behind your house that cuts across to ours. It's way faster then rounding the block."
