Chapter 252
Jax's Point of View
The emergency room at St. Thomas was full today, but it wasn't overflowing like it was past times I've visited Rowan at work. I got a few curious glances and questioning looks as I walked through the ER heading towards the nurses station in search of Rowan. I was used to the looks and the stares. It came with the territory of wearing the reaper on my back. I spotted Rowan's friend Cara, sitting at a computer behind the nurses station and gave her a small smile when our eyes met over the screen. "Hey, you seen my girl?" I asked, leaning against the counter.
Cara chuckled, the country twang in her voice even evident when she laughed. "You just missed her. She went into the nurses locker room to change into a new pair of scrubs. 4 year old in bay 2 puked on her. Flu. Poor thing."
I tried to hide my laugh by shaking my head, but it still escaped my lips a little. Cara chuckled a little too as she stood up behind the counter, grabbing a patients folder. "Last week she had a drunk spill pee on her and had a woman cuss her out because the doctor wouldn't prescribe her what she wanted. She was a total drug seeker. She can't catch a break lately."
Huh. Rowan never mentioned any of this stuff to me. Not once has she ever said more then she's had a long day when I ask how work was. Then again, maybe I haven't asked much lately. There were times when she saw some pretty gory and graphic scenes with patients that she'd share with me, but she never told me about the assholes. Not that a four year old with the flu is an asshole, but the others were.
I smirked and wrapped my knuckles on the counter admiring the cute little turkey wearing a pilgrim hat figurine sitting next to some baskets of paperwork. Jesus. Thanksgiving was coming up again. This year was already going to be a thousand times better then the one we celebrated in Stockton. By celebrate, I mean nothing. "Can I go talk to her?"
"Go on. She'll be happy to see you. It's been a rough morning." Cara said smiling, her eyes crinkling at the sides. I didn't know Cara well but she was good to Rowan and she's helped the club a time or two, so she was good in my book. "Hey, can you have Juice call me? He keeps blowing me off. We hooked up at your wedding and I really liked him." I was heading backwards towards the locker room before Cara even stopped talking.
"Uh, sure. Next time I see him I'll pass it along. Thanks, Cara." I smiled, before turning on my heel and rounding the corner. It dawned on me I hadn't really spoken to Juice much lately. He was always skittish when more then one of us was around or made an excuse to go elsewhere. I just thought he was hitting the weed a little too much or maybe got on something a little harder. I needed to reign him in. Make sure his head was right.
As I approached the nurses locker room I made a mental note to check in with Juice later today and ask him about tracking down Tree. We'd all met this morning and voted on Avery joining SAMCRO as a prospect, but Chibs had proxied his vote for him. Clay was hesitant but he agreed and everyone else did too. It was my job to sponsor the little shit since I haven't done it yet and it's in the clubs by laws everyone has to sponsor someone at some point. Who better then my wife's little half brother.
I walked in the nurses locker room and headed down the row of dark blue lockers. Rowan was standing at hers digging a new scrub top out of a bag. I crept up behind her and squeezed her sides making her yelp and whirl around only to smack me and laugh. "What are you doing?! You scared me, jerk!"
"What I can't surprise my old lady?" I leaned in and smirked at her, pressing my lips against hers ever so lightly, gripping her chin in my hand. Rowan's eyes locked on mine and it was like she could see right through me. I swore sometimes she could. She bit down on her full lip, making my cock throb because just last night she had those lips wrapped around me. I leaned in and tucked her hair behind her ear and let my breath just hit the sensitive skin below her ear. "Last night was fucking amazing, babe. I can't get you out of my head."
