Chapter Eighteen:
X
Connection
I don't know how long I was awake nor did I know if what time is it, but one thing I know is the fact that I wanted freedom.
I've realized that I wanted freedom but I wouldn't enjoy my liberties if someone is hunting me, King Willard.
Last night, I made various plans with alterations and room for improvement but the first step is escaping.
Yes, escaping from this dungeon. I can only move forward with my plans outside this dark place where we were cut off.
And my plan started with Mave and his talent. I haven't confided my plan entirely with anyone, but they are willing to help. I just don't want them to feel the burden and risk I am about to face. And my plan have loopholes, lots of it.
I asked Mave to retrace his mind link to the castle maid. At first, he seems hesitant but he followed.
She's silent probably --- wait she's crying again and cursing someone in her mind.
Can you link me to her? We sat facing each other in our cells with only the small bell light shining on our faces.
How? I saw how his brows furrowed.
I don't know either. Just try thinking two voices at once. I suggested skeptically. I don't know how talent works but I know their talents makes wonders.
Nothing.
Let's do it this way. Close your eyes and imagine yourself talking to your two friends. He nodded.
Why do --- mess -- tired!--
You're almost there! I encouraged him and he smiled. The voice seems hazy but it's an improvement. A big one!
Why does he have to break every cups and shred his sheets everyday?! That doesn't mean his a king, he'll do whatever he wants! We'll ran out of cups soon! Ouch! Arg! I'm tired of this! And the girl began crying.
Our eyes widened when we heard the word 'king'.
Can you talk to her? I asked Mave and he nodded. He have a direct connection, maybe he'll do it effectively than I will.
Hi. Mave's low voice resonated my mind but the other line went silent.
Right! I must be going crazy. She said after a minute of silence. Mave urged me to speak but I shook my head. He made a hand gesture that says 'go on' and I sigh.
Hi. This is Natalie. You're connected to our mind link so don't freak out, please. I said hastily before she will react violently to my voice.
What's in the twin moon's crater is going on?!
I got confused with her words but I continued speaking.
I mean I am Natalie --err Veridian, sorry to freak you out. We were trying to communicate with people outside our place. Were in a mind link. I explained.
I-I --- sorry, I didn't know you. I can't trust you. Sorry. That's her last words before the mink link connected disappear and was replaced by a long static sound inside my head. I cupped my head with the sudden pain from the static, the same time as Mave did.
"Sorry, that static is caused by a mind link malfunction."
"It's okay. We can try again later." I sigh. I stood up and walked towards Miss Hoggins. She's been doing pretty good and she can move her legs now. The bruises in her arms where healing too. They told me how they got caught earlier and why Miss Hoggins where wounded badly. And I'm pretty impressed with her. She didn't have any talents but she blocked herself when one guard who was getting up on the ground, tried to stab Mr. Fred from behind. They were overpowered and caught.
