Skai jumped up so fast and sat up on her bed, feeling tears the tears in her eyes about to fall. Happy tears?
"Dammit, dammit, dammit!" She yelled as she threw her face into her hands, tightly tugging on her hair.
The tears that were suppose to be happy, turned into hurt and anger as they fell.
Tyler and Skai broke up 2 months ago. Their memories were still haunting her every time she thinks she has a decent day.
Skai got up and made her way to the bathroom down the hall. She moved back home the moment Tyler got back from her "vacation." She could not stand the thought of running into her around campus, the sound of her laugh filling up a hallway, even hearing her name. It made her whole body cringe, and her heart ache.
Looking at herself in the mirror, she tells herself, "you have GOT to pull yourself together. This isn't healthy. This move is suppose to heal you, not haunt you." Wiping the tears from her eyes, she looks at herself one last time.
"I can't do this..." Skai falls to her knees and cries as she says this. The pain was like someone literally stabbed her in the heart. It was harder to breathe, her stomach was empty, and her chest... She thought her heart was really breaking. Rocking back and forth, she begged herself to be okay.
Suddenly, Layla opens the bathroom door and looks at Skai.
"Skai, no no no. Come on sis." Layla said as she sat in front of Skai and wrapped her arms around her. It hurt her little sister to see her so upset.
"It's okay, you're okay, you're fine." She tried comforting Skai.
"No! I am not okay! Why can't she leave my dreams as easily as she can leave me in real life?! Why can't she just get her shit and LEAVE? Why is she always here? Why?" Skai yelled through her tears. "I love her, Layla."
"I know, Skai, I know." Still holding Skai, not letting her go.
"I dreamt of our first few weeks together. It was like our beginning was a movie and I was watching it. Why is she doing this to me?"
"It's not her, Skai. It's you. You are not letting go, you are not moving on. You're stuck on someone you haven't talked to in a little over a month. But that's okay... What's not okay is that it's been 2 months and you're still crying like it just happened last night."
That really got to Skai. She stopped crying and rocking. She sat there, looking at Layla. She got up and hugged her sister and ran back to her bedroom. Sitting on the edge of her bed, she thought and thought.
"Get over her. Get back out there. Answer Ali. She likes you. She's pretty. She's funny. Just go for it, come on."
She convinced herself, then picked up her phone.
*Still want that lunch date tomorrow?*
*Hell yeah. 11:30. Be ready, I will come get you! Goodnight!*
Skai read her text, took a deep breath, and eventually fell back asleep.
