  • Dedicated to my dearest friend Udita ;)

The chief started saying how the patrolling guards found us. The king listened intently. I saw disbelief emerged  in his eyes when the chief was saying what Jade and I told him.

Then he turned to Jade. "Now you have to tell the exact truth" I heard Jade taking a deep breath. Probably he needed some courage.

"That is the exact truth. Nothing more or less. I believe that you can help us to go back. Go back to where we came" his speech sounded convincing enough.

"What on earth are you talking about? Where did you come from? I don't believe that you came from another world. Then how do you explain that you speaking our language?" Ok! not powerful enough to convince the king. I saw ministers nodding in agreement. Fear rushed through me. Will they behead us?

"We are not from another world, neither from another country. I believe we are from the same country but from a different time. Probably from future" Oh! gosh he also had thought so. I wasn't reading too much fictions. I was relieved. But it didn't last longer. I felt crestfallen by seeing the king's amused expression. He was not going to believe it. How can he? Even I found it difficult to believe. It was like a fairy tale. Alice in wonderland??

"Have you got anything different to tell?" I was startled out of my fantasy. All of them were looking at me. My mouth went dry & the body went numb. I wanted to flee from that episode. Isn't it unfair to write this kind of tragedies in scripts? But when I saw Jade's anxious look the realization dawned to me. This wasn't a joke.

I cleared my throat. "No! I know it is hard to believe. Even I can't figure out what really happened. That's the only reasonable theory I can think about. Sure! we speak the same language. But didn't you notice that we never used the words like thou and mayhap? Those words are archaic. We use you and perhaps instead. I would be grateful to you if you can do something. You see! This is not the place where we belong." I was surprised by my stable & unwavering voice. And I saw that others too noticed it. The king seemed to be deep in thought. The ministers exchanged looks. A flash of appreciation expressed from Jade.

"What time of the day is it?" The king inquired.

"It's almost the dinnertime, my lord!" an attendant answered.

"Chief! They will spend the night under your inspection. Take them to the shelter. Take a maidservant to go with the girl." The king ordered. I wondered what this 'shelter' was.

"Yes! my lord" The chief bowed. And he gestured us to do so. "Oh! Thank you!" I said to the king. Arching his brows he asked, "For what?"

"For believing us." I answered. "HA..HA..HA.. we will come to that tomorrow" he laughed heartily. I understood that he was truly a kind and a sensible person.
