Michelle got me a new phone after telling her the truth about what happened. Not that I am not grateful or anything, I feel it isn't what I need right now. I already have a chrome book and a not-so-old iPhone; that is enough for me, at this point. The greatest surprise ever will be when I get a car. I can't stand getting into packed buses or walking, instead of cruising with my friends. Will has a car, so does Alan. Beric and Bryce are planning on getting their own vehicles soon and I am left with no plan. It doesn't complete our group.
My sisters leave me alone with the kids for some work. Michelle doesn't know that I am not a babysitter and there are so many young and old ladies out there that want to work and take care of kids. She informs me that Frederick, her husband is going to be coming home to take the children to his mother's place for a week, which is a shocking thing to me, because she never allows her kids stay with him for a day, talk-less of a week. She had already called their school teachers that they wouldn't be available and would like to spend some quality time with their grandmother.
My mom on the other hand is suppose to be the one spending time with her grandkids and as usual, she has gone back to Vermont to spend some more time with her husband, which is my dad. We both don't have that father and son relationship for as long as I can remember. It has been a really long time since I last saw him or literally spoke to him. He is always working and enjoying his life with his wife. That is why I call him her husband, instead of dad. The title doesn't feel like it, at least to me.
Frederick pulls up in front of our drive-way, as I see him from one of the windows upstairs. He removes his sunglasses and turns off his ignition, not without his usual Jason Derulo's music blasting out in the neighborhood. I head downstairs with the bag full of his children's clothes and diapers to the living room. I place the sleepy little one down on the chair close to me and he takes off immediately. The older one sits on the chair and focuses his attention on some kid show he is watching.
"Nick!" Frederick shouts, engulfing me in a warm and brief hug with a smile. "Good to see you again, little man."
"I'm nineteen, but yeah. . .I guess little man is fine." I roll my eyes and we exchange a family handshake. "It's great to see you too, Frederick. How are you? I mean, you've been busy with work and the kids have been here with us and all that. So, it's nice seeing you here after some time."
"I'm good, man. Yeah, work has me all the time. One moment you want to breathe and chill for a weekend, the cycle continues within forty-eight hours. I'm glad I came by for two weeks to see my family." He chuckles and sits down, carrying his sleeping son on his lap.
"Hm-hm. I understand. Tiffany and Michelle are really trying, though. Honestly, It isn't easy working and taking care of kids. Hard and stressful work." I say to him and he agrees with me. "Do you want anything to drink? I can offer you what you want."
"What do you have?" He asks, trying to get the attention of his first son who is trying to balance looking at his dad and watching his show.
Poor guy, he didn't start that bonding time with him early enough.
"I have lots of drinks on my own side of the fridge, unless you want the one Michelle drinks." I reply.
"Please, give me yours. I know you. I don't want fresh orange juice and protein shakes." He mimics her and laughs and I join him.
We talk about a couple of other related things. He isn't as boring as I thought he was. We engage in different discussions for more than an hour or close to two. The phone call he got made him realize that he is late for something. I help him with the bags and other necessary things that he needs to go with and say my goodbye.
