Chapter Seven
"Come on Liza. Let's bust a move," Wilbert said, standing up and taking Eliza's hand in his.
"Do we have to?" Eliza groaned, "my feet are killing me."
"Well it wouldn't be prom if we didn't dance. Now would it sweetie?" Wilbert asked, his voice a bit condescending.
Eliza rolled her eyes, remembering that she didn't have a choice.
"I guess not," she finally replied, through gritted teeth.
And with that Eliza stood up and let Wilbert lead her onto the crowded dance floor.
"Come on, I don't bite," Wilbert announced, as the pair awkwardly swayed to a painfully slow song.
They stood about four inches apart, their hands the only thing connecting them.
And Eliza intended to keep it that way.
"We're dancing, aren't we?" She retorted.
"Pfft. You call this dancing? This is dancing."
Wilbert grabbed Eliza's arm and yanked her forward till they were chest to chest.
For some odd reason, Eliza didn't move away, and she let him slip his arm around her waist.
"See, isn't this better?' He asked, grabbing her other hand.
"I still hate you," Eliza mumbled, awkwardly placing her head on Wilbert's shoulder.
He only laughed.
After three more songs, Wilbert was finally ready for a break.
The pair was headed back to their seats, when Eliza spotted someone up ahead, that nearly made her throw up.
A few inches in front of her was Carl.
And with a look of disgust, he locked eyes with Wilbert and strode up to the lanky boy.
Eliza spun around, ready to make a run for it when...
"You're in my way," Wilbert loudly said.
"Really? I don't see anyone here," Carl coldly replied, crossing his arms.
"Carl," Eliza whispered.
"Stay out of this Eliza!" Carl shouted, "okay, why are you even here with him?"
"Because"- Eliza began to say, when Wilbert interrupted.
"Because she's my girlfriend!"
"What?" Carl screamed his eyes wide as saucers.
Eliza looked around at the large crowd that was forming around the small group.
And as she saw all of the cameras and phones pointed at them, she began to feel angry.
Like really angry.
"Just stop it!" She roared, looking between both boys.
"Are you dating this weirdo?" Carl spat, glaring at Eliza.
But before she could answer, Wilbert replied, "of course she is! Would random strangers do this?"
Before Eliza knew what was happening, her lips were pressed against Wilbert's.
The crowd erupted in shocked gasps, as a horrified Eliza, fought to untangle herself from the boy.
"Good stuff," Wilbert grinned, finally letting her go.
"You ass!" Eliza screamed, slamming her hand across Wilbert's cheek.
Although the music continued to blare, everyone in the room fell completely quiet.
Everyone watched as Wilbert's face flashed red with anger.
Eliza feeling a bit scared now, took a step back.
"That's it!" Wilbert roared; his eyes filled with rage.
He then lurched forward, and yanked Eliza's wig clean off of her head, exposing her balding scalp.
The room erupted in gut busting laughter, so loud and wild that it could be heard over the floor quaking music.
Eliza stood frozen as humiliation filled every inch of her body.
She couldn't believe what was happening!
After everything she'd-
"And that's what you get!" Wilbert loudly cackled, tossing Eliza's wig over his head.
"And this is what you get!" Eliza shouted, leaning over and yanking Wilbert's khaki pants d0wn to his ankles.
The laughter grew stronger still, as everyone stared at Wilbert's skinny bare legs.
The boy flashed red with embarrassment.
Eliza smiled for the first time that night.
"And now!" she laughed, patting Wilbert's bony shoulder, "we're even!"
