"The sun of June makes me want to melt. It's so hot and you know what that means? Summer clothes. Which means the school has banned pretty much every type of top, short and skirt in existence. Like how are strappy tops 'distracting'? Stop educating girls on how to dress and start educating boys on respect!"
"Rant over?" Sadie giggles.
"Yep." I say, sighing sighing.
"Hey, I'm still good to come around tonight, right?"
"Yeah, of course; my mom loves you so she'll be happy to see you."
We carry on walking down the school driveway ready to get on the bus.
"Have you got a date for prom yet, Mol?"
"No and I told you already I don't want to go!"
"You have to go - come on, it'll be so much fun, trust me."
"Ok." I say, emotionless.
"That weirdly took a lot less persuasion than I imagined." murmurs Sadie.
"I'm guessing you don't have a date either?"
"Actually I do," she says as we climb aboard the bus, we walk to the back seats and sit down, "Jason asked me."
She waves across the bus at a cute Asian boy, sitting with a couple of boys from the football team. He smiles back at her and blows a subtle kiss. Sadie slides down her chair, blushing.
"Isn't he just gorgeous?!" she exclaims.
"Yeah." I nod and whisper sarcastically, "Gorgeous."
Taking out my phone I immediately go onto Nathaniel's Instagram page.
"Mollie!" Sadie says, snatching my phone from me.
"He's not worth it! You need to stop looking, it's unhealthy."
"I miss him so much."
"I know, but you have to move on and forget about him. Stop chasing Nathaniel when you haven't even found yourself."
I nod and stare out of the window as the bus drives on forward.
A few minutes later one of the boys from my science class turns around from the seat in front of us.
"Hey." he says, with a slight Irish accent. Hamish moved here a year ago and has desperately tried to loose his accent.
Sadie hits me, on the arm prompting me to speak.
"Hi, Hamish." I say.
"Um, Mollie I know we aren't that close but do you wanna go to prom with me?"
"I don't think that-" I look across at Sadie who gives me death eyes, "Yeah, ok."
"Cool," he smiles, "Text me your address and I'll pick you up at 7."
"Ok." The bus stops and Sadie pulls me up.
"Come on Mollie, this is us."
"See later." Hamish smiles.
As we get off the bus, Sadie bends down to whisper something in Jason's ear.
We jump onto the sidewalk and I let out a little scream.
"See, feel better now?"
"Yeah I do, thank you." I say, gushing.
Sadie smiles as we walk up to my house. I get out my key and slide it into the lock, opening the door.
"Hey mom," I say as we go in, "I got a date for prom."
She appears holding a laptop at the table.
"Wow that's great, honey." She smiles, closing her laptop, "hey Sadie, sorry I was just finishing some work with the business."
"Mom's been working hard on her new online business, she's making jewellery." I say, turning to Sadie.
"Yeah I think I remember you telling me. How's it going?"
"Really well, thank you, actually I have something for you girls!" says mom, going into one of the kitchen draws, she pulls out two rings, one with a red gem and one with a blue. Handing them to us she whispers, "One for you and one for you."
"Thanks." we chorus, placing them onto our fingers.
Mom smiles, proud of herself, "Do you want a drink?" she asks us as we put our bags down by the door and take our shoes off.
"Just water, it's so hot outside." says Sadie.
"Same for me."
Mom goes to get the glasses, "So, who is the date, Mol? Do I know him?"
"No, I don't think so. He's called Hamish, um he's Irish and he's in my science class."
"Nice," she says judgingly, "And you, Sadie - have you got a date?"
"Yeah, um a boy Jason - he's on the football team." she smiles.
"Classic jock." Mom, jokes filling the second glass with water from the tap before handing them to us, "Enjoy!"
"Thanks mom." I say leading Sadie up to my room.
"Oh my gosh, I completely forgot to tell you, Mollie!"
"What?"
"I got an email from that college - you got in!" She smiles enthusiastically.
I freeze, taking in the information.
"Isn't that great?"
I pause, "Yeah, great."
My heart drops. I knew I wouldn't get to travel the world, I guess it just hadn't properly sunk in until now.
