The two girls sat outside in the warm, breezy air. Enola sat on a high tree branch whereas Elettra sat against the trunk of the tree on a fresh patch of grass. The two had decided that after everything that's been going on, its a lot for them, so they decided to get away and relax. Just the two of the Holmes siblings, like it had been for years. The tree was quite special to the girl, her an old friend from when she was younger, she couldn't remember his name; it had been years! Would always climb it and mess about, racing to see who could climb it the fastest, carving their initials into the bark and so on. They promised they'd be friends forever. Oh how young and stupid they were, of course they wouldn't be friends for ever. The two had to depart after he & his family had to travel over seas. Elettra remembered how upset she was for the rest of the month. Ever since then, she had always felt that she was missing a part of her. Someone, something.
Anyways, that's enough touchy-feely stuff for now.
"Life is like a game of chess." Elettra sighed, picking at her nails.
Enola paused the actions and peered down at her sister, "You don't know how to play chess."
"Exactly!" She exclaimed, running her fingers through her messy locks.
Enola couldn't help but giggle, "Any reason you're thinking about how chess is connected to life?"
Elettra sighed once more, her pale hands pulling at the grass near her, "Not particularly, I've just been stuck in my thoughts the passed few days, and having Mycroft here is really a pain in the arse."
"I completely agree, but at least sherlock isn't too bad."
"Thank the lord." Elettra murmured to herself, rubbing her hands together to rid of the remaining grass that stuck to them as the two sat in silence. The only sound being the scratching of Enolas pencil on her notebook. As long as the girl knew that her younger sister was safe, she too felt safe. She always had been and always will be.
The sound of approaching footsteps made Elettra open her eyes and cross her legs, staying as still as possible. That was until she heard the voice of her Eldest brother, Sherlock and she immediately relaxed against the trunk once more.
"I also enjoy a sketch." Sherlock said, sitting down on the opposite side of the tree to Elettra, "Helps me think, Process my thoughts."
Enola glanced down at her sister, "Helps me do the same."
The girl went to turn the page of her notebook but the sketch she had currently been drawing dropped to the floor. She sighed in defeat as the paper flew out of the reach and towards Sherlock, who grabbed it. An amused look took over his face and quietly chuckled.
Elettra frowned, she hadn't seen the drawing so she carefully got up and sat down near Sherlock, soon giggling herself, "Let's hope Mycroft isn't to see this."
Sherlock smiled, "I quite agree."
He then turned his head sideways, towards Enola, "Do you plan on staying up there?"
"I was hoping for some privacy." She shot back.
Sherlock hummed in thought, "You know, the last I remember of you, you were quite a timid little thing. Both of you, really."
Enola and Elettra both stayed silent.
"Enola had a pinecone wrapped in wool. Dragged it with you wherever you went." He smiled fondly at the memory, "Calling it Dash. Somebody told you that Queen Victoria had a king Charles spaniel called Dash. You decided you wanted the same."
Whilst on the topic of Enola, Sherlock continued, "We could never convince you to put trousers on. Your bottom was always bare."
Enola let out a small gasp, beginning her way down the tree.
"And Elettra," He continued, "You had a strong love for Archery, and breadsticks, but mainly archery. You would always be begging me to to teach you new tricks." Sherlock chuckled again, "I remember once you almost fired one straight at Mycroft. Scared him shitless but you found it hilarious!"
Elettra smiled, she could slightly recall some of the memory herself.
Sherlock soon frowned, "I think that's all the memories I have."
"Thank you." Enola grunted as she jumped down, "If you could now forget them all."
Sherlock sighed as Enola continued, " A pinecone called Dash? That sounds ridiculous!"
Elettra grinned, "I remember now, Father used to chase you all about the place shouting, 'Get that damn dog out of my house!'"
The three siblings laughed, before going silent, their own thoughts flooding through.
Enola frowned before turning to Sherlock, "Why did you never visit?"
Sherlock murmured something to himself that Elettra couldn't quite catch but it seemed Enola did as she approached him, "Well why didn't you write?"
He turned to Enola with raised eyebrows, "Would you have cared for my letters?"
Enola sat next to him in silence and Elettra took her turn to speak, "We have kept every clipping of every case of yours we could ever find."
"Flattering." Sherlock said.
"And yet, it took our mothers disappearance to bring you home." Elettra bluntly spoke, emotions beginning to take over her although she tried to fight them back, "She meant to go. She's not coming back."
Sherlock shook his head, "No. But the truth is, mother always had a reason for everything. Her own way of doing things, and those kind of mysteries are always the most satisfying to unpack."
Enola turned to him with a fierce gaze, "I don't want a mystery sherlock. I want my mother back here and my life as it was." She told him. Elettra understood how much pain her younger sister was feelings, heck, she didn't even stutter once.
The brother of the two turned to both girls, "You're being emotional. It's understandable, but unnecessary."
Elettra was about to yell at him but before she could he continued,
"Look for what's there, not what you want to be there.
You'll see the truth soon enough."
