"So, this and this and this is really just five times sixteen?" I asked, pointing out weird numbers on my page"Yes, and for the third time, five times sixteen is not fifty five, how are you a grade eleven?" Max sighed while rubbing his hand across his face
"I don't know, that's why I'm in applied math, A P P L I E D"
"Good, you can spell, but thats not going to help us here"
I slumped back in my seat and crossed my arms over my chest after throwing my pencil at the floor.
"Common Roy, work with me here" Max pleaded
He stood from his chair and bent down to grab my pencil for me before giving it to me and going back to his seat.
"I'm never going to understand this, what does this even mean?" I asked, pointing to a set of numbers, letters and symbols.
"You will understand it, I'll help you" max spotted someone with their hand up "here, work on this question and I'll be right back, remember, reorganizing helps a lot, breaking it down is easier than you think" he stood up and patted my hand before moving a few rows back to help out Chase Greer.
My stomach did a backflip when Max touched my hand, I retracted it from the spot it was and angrily picked up my pencil, scratching the graphite onto the page I thought about Max, a little bit about Jack and a little bit about Chris. See, it's nice to have guy friends over girl friends until your life ends up like mine. A boyfriend, a best friend and a best friends brother who you're probably crushing on but don't want to admit to it.
"What? How the hell did you get eight?" Max said, leaning on the back of my chair
With an aggravated sigh I leaned back in my chair once more, this time though my head connected with something hard. I squeezed my eyes shut as I felt Max's stomach harden out if shock, he stepped away and sat back into his chair.
"Can I see your pencil?" He asked with a sigh
I stretched my arm out to him and he took my pencil, our fingers touching, I jerked my hand back and folded it into my other. For the next half an hour Max worked through some problems with me, then made me do a problem by myself, then got mad when I got it wrong. Three times.
The bell rang and everyone quickly shoved everything into their bags, I swung mine over my shoulders and made my way to the door, but was stopped by Max.
"Hey" he said, grabbing my wrist
"What?" I questioned, trying to pull away from him, but his hand stayed wrapped around my small pale wrist.
"You should come around to my house tonight, I could help you out some more with the problems, make sure you know what you're doing by tomorrow"
"I'm going to a family dinner tonight, my brothers going to be home"
"Oh, alright, we can always reschedule, how about tomorrow night?"
"We'll see, I've been kind of busy, Jack also wants to go out tomorrow night if he can get out of the house"
"Alright-"
"Look, I'll talk to you later, I can't be late for English"
Without letting him reply I yanked my arm out of his grip and left the room, Jack was just coming out of his class at the same time.
"Hey Red" Jack wrapped his arm around my waist and kissed my cheek, my face flushed and I glanced over to my classroom door where Max was standing, bag over his shoulder and a blank look on his face as he watched us
