It's been two months, things are great with Jack, he's had four more games and I've been to every one, Chris and Max had a few soccer games and Jack accompanied me to them. I've avoided going to the McKlain house, avoided getting help in math class by spending my lunches and after school studying with Jack, Chris, Maia or Roxie. A few times the five of us had a study group going on in my dad's basement. Roxie has seemed to develop feelings for my brother who has been home every weekend.

That's where we are right now, in the basement, Roxie and I with notepads and pencils and pens spread out in front of us, along with our laptops and music playing faintly from her phone.

"Fuck English class, this is a bullshit assignment, we did news reports in grade nine" Roxie whined and slouched back into the couch.

"I know, but it's easy, just put together your part, I simply asked you to give them adresses, something to say and last names"

"But that's so hard" She grumbled

"Stop whining and do it, I'll do the rest"

My brother chose that moment to come out of his room, shirtless. I groaned as Roxie sat up and pretended to be busy at work, acting like she was the smarter one in the room, whilst she snuck glances at my brother as he strode across the room and put me in a headlock.

"Hey Ry" he smiled

"What do you want?" I asked, he smelt of BO and axe body spray, almost twenty years old and still doesn't know what a shower is "I'm trying to get an English assignment done with miss smarts here"

"Just wanted to know if you wanted to go to the spot tonight, it's been a while, plus your dad has been stomping around the house all day, I can just smell a fight coming"

"Alright, we can go after dinner"

"How about we go in an hour, pick up dinner on our way, I've got a project for us there"

"Fine, an hour, go shower in the meantime"

"I showered the other day" he scowled

"And you smell, working out every day deserves five showers a day when it comes to you and your body odour"

"Asshole" he grumbled and headed for his room

"Dickwad!" I called as his door closed, it opened again so he could quickly throw me the finger and then he slammed it again

I could hear him laughing and I giggled.

"The spot?" Roxie asked, biting her lip, a nervous habit of hers

"Yeah, just some place we go to when the parents fight, his mom and my dad get pretty brutal sometimes. The fighting isn't even the worst part" I grimaced "it's the part where they get over whatever they'd been fighting about and decide to make up" I feigned gagging.

"Really?"

"Yeah, we also go so we can just hang out, talk about stuff away from prying eyes and hawk ears"

"I see"

"No, you can't come"

"Awe man"

"Just ask him out already, he's obviously single and with a face like that, he will be for the rest of his life if you don't just go for it"

"With a face like that he'll be making my panties drop for the rest of my life" she winked

"Ew, gross, that's my brother!"

"Step brother" she sang, I gagged

"Just shut up and get your work done"

So, for the next hour, Roxie and I worked on putting the stupid news report together before calling it quits when Aiden came out of the bathroom, sweatpants and sweatshirt combo in all it's glory for Roxie to swoon over.
