IV

After leaving the bakery, Josh stuck to his plan of going to see his mother.

He knocked on the door before entering her room like he normally does, and then he walked in slowly after.

"Hi momma," he greeted her softly with a smile, then he held up the box a little, "I got you the turnovers."

His mother smiled at that and said, "awe, thank you, honey," as her son walked over and handed the box to her.

Josh pulled over that same chair from yesterday and sat beside the hospital bed, and he watched as his mom opened the box of pastries and grabbed one from it. It didn't take long for her to take the first bite, and when she did, she immediately smiled and said, "yep, still as good as I remember. Did Jenna make these?"

"Yep," he answered simply.

"Well if you ever go by there again while she's there, tell her that they were amazing," she laughed lightly, and then she took another bite from it. After she swallowed that last bit down though, she saw her son eyeing them in the box and so she pushed them a bit closer to him and told him, "you can have some if you want, hun."

"You sure?" he asked for confirmation, and when she nodded, he reached over and took one while saying, "thank you."

As Josh took his first bite, his eyes lit up again just as they did the day before, "god, how is all their stuff so good?" His mom laughed a bit again too and said, "I know, it's amazing."

"For real," he replied as he took another small bite, then he joked a bit, "shoot, I'm gonna have to go by there more often so I can try everything."

"Yeah, and you'll have to bring some for me too," she joked back shortly before taking another bite from her turnover. Both of them went quiet for a moment while they ate, but then his mom remembered to ask, "...oh, was Jenna's mom there today?"

Josh went ahead and told her everything he had found out, "oh, no. I talked to Tyler though and he said that she doesn't really come into the store anymore, she just does all the inside stuff from home I guess. He and Jenna are the only ones who actually work there. Oh- and speaking of Jenna, I asked and she said she does remember you and asked me how you were doing n all."

She made a concerned face at that last part and asked, "well what did you tell her?"

"That you were doing okay and that nothing's been really going on with you," he answered, "I didn't wanna just overload her with all of that information at once, especially while Tyler was standing there too, so I just kinda lied for now I guess..."

His mom nodded in understanding, "yeah, I get it. I wouldn't have mentioned it either if I were you. But, her mom knows everything though, so maybe she'll end up telling her or something... I don't know. It's not a huge deal though if she does know I guess."

Josh shrugged and said, "yeah, I guess," before eating the last bit of the turnover, and then he went quiet.

To change the subject a little though, his mom asked, "...but, you talked to Tyler, hmm?"

He looked to her and saw the smug look on her face and he rolled his eyes, "mom, stooooop... we just talked, nothing happened."

"But did you find out if he's dating Jenna?" she asked curiously.

At the mention of that, he smiled happily with the answer he had, "yes, and luckily he is not."
