I climb up the ladder, collapsing on the grass. Theo and Mason follow.
"Well," I say, "that was fun."
"Tell me about it." Mason adds. A ringing catches our attention. Mason pulls his phone out of his pocket.
"Hello? No, don't remove the IVs. You don't know what's gonna happen. Let- just, just wait till we get. We're on our way." Mason says, before putting the phone down.
"What was that?" Theo asks.
"Liam. We need to go to the hospital." Mason explains.
"Well, let's go." I say.
"It's a trap." Theo says.
"What?" Mason asks.
"It has to be. Nolan wouldn't lead him there. Not after all he's done." my brother says.
"I don't care if it's a trap. I'm going." I say.
"Well, good luck." Theo says. Mason and I run to the car, and I try to sit in the passenger seat, but Mason stops me again. I get in the back, and I jump as Corey appears in the passenger seat.
"How long has he been here?" I ask, panting.
"The whole time." Mason replies.
"That's why I couldn't sit there." I realise. Mason nods, starting the engine, and starting on our journey to the hospital. We drive down the unusually empty roads in the darkness.
"There's nobody on the roads." Mason says.
"It's like everybody's getting ready for a storm or something." Corey says.
"You know what I think it is?" Mason says. "It's Kristallnacht." I furrow my eyebrows in confusion.
"What's that? German?" I ask.
"They call it 'The Night of Broken Glass'. The Nazis instigated this wave of anti-Jewish violence all of Germany and Austria. Over two hundred synagogues were destroyed, people dragged out of their homes, attacked and murdered. They arrested almost thirty thousand Jews, all in one night." Mason explains.
"So that's what's gonna happen here? To us?" Corey asks.
"They're coming for us." I say. "All of us."
We keep driving until we arrive at the hospital. We walk in through the front door, and we walk past the reception counter, noticing a nurse watching us. We walk past her, not making eye contact. We turn a corner, and we see another nurse watching over us.
"Mason. Eilish." Corey says.
"We see them." Mason says. We keep walking.
"What is this?" Corey asks.
"I think us coming here was planned." Mason realises.
"Theo was right." I say. We speed up, running in to an empty room. We stop, catching our breath.
"I think I just realised something." Mason says.
"Me, too." Corey says.
"Same." I add.
"We're bait." We all say.
