Killing Snow Bunnies

Fifteen minutes later, we meet Eggsy and Whiskey at an old hut in the woods. They have the antidote. "Jesus Christ, you two gave me a heart attack.", I declare and step inside. There's a fireplace and the hut looks nice and cozy. Very good. "Well, you didn't want to come, so we had to solve it our way.", Eggsy grins.

Next thing I know is that I'm laying on the floor, my brother on top of me, and the little vial with the antidote is flying through the air. In shock, we both watch it shatter into a thousand pieces as it lands on the stone tiles. "You fucking dickhead!", Eggsy yells at Whiskey, who was the one to push us. Outside, the enemy starts shooting at the hut. "I just saved your lives, they would have shot you!", Whiskey protests. From the look on Harry's face I can tell he's seeing butterflies again. Swearing heavily, I get back up and kick the door open. Then I turn to Whiskey. "Come on, cowboy. Let's see who of us is better at killing snow bunnies."

Guess the snow bunnies don't like me that much. I do kill more of them than Whiskey does, but I also end up getting shot in the stomach. Crying from pain, I stumble back into the hut, where Harry catches me before I can fall to my knees. He wants to say something, but Whiskey is faster. "You two fucking idiots, I told you to give us backup. Didn't you see how many of them there were? Now your girlfriend has a fucking bullet in her stomach, is that any better? Is it?" I don't get to hear Harry's answer anymore. Too much blood has already left my body through the bullet wound, my shirt and jacket are soaked with it. Pain flashes through my body and makes my senses go numb. Then the dark overpowers me.

I never knew waking up could be this painful. My whole abdominal area feels like it is on fire, my head is spinning and I have the urge to throw up as I feel some tubes going right through my nose down into my throat. I try to sit up, but a gentle hand on my shoulder keeps me from doing it. "Don't. Sitting will hurt even more." Hamish. "Do you want some water?" I nod. My mouth is too dry to speak. Hamish removes the tubes from my nose and helps me drink. "You gave me a nice scare when Harry carried you back in here, Jane. Covered in blood, barely breathing, a few minutes later and we couldn't have saved you. Eggsy went nuts and your boyfriend was crying for two hours. Kept saying it was all his fault." "Where are they now?", I manage to say, voice weak and shaky. "Your brother is at the training room, letting off some steam, and Harry's probably asleep somewhere. Whiskey got shot just a few moments after you, but he's alright again, thanks to the after gel." He sits down next to me on the bed, a worried look on his face. "What did they mean when they said it was all their fault, Jane? What happened out there?" Thinking about this makes my head spin even more. "Whiskey and I left the shelter to shoot some of Poppy's soldiers. Eggsy and Harry were supposed to give us backup, but they had an argument instead." I sigh and take another sip of the water. "Whiskey said it was their fault that I got shot, but I was just not paying attention, Hamish. I wanted to be better than him and play it cool, and then I missed out an agent and he shot me. I don't think Eggsy or Harry could have protected me from him." Hamish swallows. "Maybe not, but they should have paid attention. We can't afford to risk a comrade's life for a bloody stupid argument. You are their sister and fiancé, how could they let this happen? God, I'm so angry right now, I could kill all three of you. You for taking the risk and them for not keeping you from it." Smiling weakly, I grab his hand and squeeze it. That seems to calm him down a bit. "I already learned my lesson, believe me. This wound hurts like hell." "You need some painkillers?" I nod. Hamish gets the pills and hands me another glass of water.

"I'm going to call Eggsy and Harry, if you like." But I shake my head. "No, it's alright. I think I'll sleep a little bit more first, if that's okay." He smiles and gives me a kiss on the forehead. "Of course. You need anything, just press the button, alright?" I nod again and pull up the blanket. Then Hamish wants to leave, but I catch his wrist. "Wait! Can you stay with me until I fall asleep? Please." Smiling softly, he sits back down and pushes a loose strand behind my ear. "Anything for you, honey." Five minutes later I fall into a deep slumber.
