Chapter 1

"Bye mom!" I gave my mom a hug and ran off to the hunter exam. I'm 18 years old as of today and today my mom gave me permission to take the exam. I've always wanted to become a hunter but my family always said it was too dangerous but now since I'm an adult, it's my choice. I have to admit, I'm terrified. Lots of people have died taking the exam so I don't blame my parents for not letting me take it before. But hopefully I won't die.

"L/n, Y/n?" The boat was here. "Here I am! Here's my ticket." I handed him the ticket and walked onto the boat. It looked pretty scary since everyone was so tall and intimidating. I'm just an 18 year old (gender). Everyone here is probably in their 20s-40s. Then a kid approached me. He looked around 11-12. "Hi! I'm Gon!" He seemed pretty friendly. "Hi! I'm y/n!" I replied, standing up. "Nice to meet you! Hey can I ask, why do you wanna be a hunter?" He looked up at me. "Well, I'm tired of living my life in a small house with the same people. I want adventure! What about you?" "My dad is a hunter! Well I actually never knew him. He left me with my aunt Mito and my grandma to be a hunter so I wanna find him!" Poor kid.

"That's cool." I didn't really know what to say. I couldn't imagine growing up without both my parents let alone knowing my dad abandoned me for a job. "Hey, do you wanna be friends?" "Sure!" I mean, it'd be nice to have someone to rely on during the exam. "Gon, come o-" An older guy was standing next to Gon. He had blonde hair and was about 5'7. "Hi Kurapika! This is my new friends, y/n!" He looked at me. Hi, I'm kurapika." I didn't respond. Instead I just stood there staring at him like an idiot. "Y/n, are you ok?" Gon asked me. "Huh? Oh- oh yeah I'm fine! Hi kurapika, nice to meet you." I gave him a little smile. "You too." He smiled back.

The boat suddenly started shaking and the sky went dark. It was a storm and let me tell you, I'm terrified of storms. "Let's head inside." Kurapika grabbed our hands and pulled us inside. Mostly everyone there was sea sick. Gon ran over and started helping them. An extremely tall man with black hair and a briefcase helped them too. Kurapika took my hand and asked if I was feeling alright. "Yeah I'm fine. I mean I'm scared of storms but I don't get sea sick easily. Are you ok?" I felt my cheeks heating up each time he would look at me let alone hold my hand. "That's good to hear. And I'm fine, thank you." He smiled at me. We walked over to the other passengers and helped them too.
