chapter 5

after what felt like a week, we finally made it to the end of the path. "it's the 'Beware of magical beasts' sign again" Leorio sighed. i layed down on the grass. "i don't know how you guys aren't about to pass out right now but i am." Kurapika and Gon lied down on either sides of me while Leorio just looked around. "i'm hungry, i need to take a dump. i need to pee too." Leorio complained after 20 minutes of stargazing. "i'll come with you." Gon said as he got up and ran off with him. Shit i'm alone with Kurapika. "hey, y/n." my heart started pounding. "please don't take this the wrong way but, are you in a relationship with anyone? i'm not trying to hit on you or anything i'm just curious about your life." i took a deep breath so i wouldn't ramble on about random stuff. "nope. people don't seem to have an interest in me and i'm fine with that. what about you?" ok i didn't make a fool out of myself.

Kurapika's POV
i feel different around y/n. there's something about them. i'm not sure if i'm attracted to them because i've never really been attracted to someone. "hey y/n, please don't take this the wrong way but, are you in a relationship with anyone? i'm not trying to hit on you or anything i'm just curious about your life." hopefully they're not weirded out. "nope. people don't seem to have an interest in me and i'm fine with that. what about you?" well that's good, i think. "me? we-"

back to your POV
"me? we-" "guys c'mon! we found the couples house!" darn it. i was so close. Kurapika helped me up and we walked over to the house. "hey, is anyone home?" Leorio knocked on the door. "maybe they're out?" "i don't know. they know it's the hunter exam, right? so why would they leave?" Leorio opened the door. "i'm coming in." there was glass scattered everywhere and this tall yellow creature standing over a guy while choking a woman. it looked back at us, smirking with its red glowing eyes.

"a shape shifting Magical Beast, Kiriko." Kurapika said. "they are able to take on human form. it's a highly intelligent beast." "it's got the woman!" Gon exclaimed. i was frozen in place. i'm not really sure why though. "we need to check on the injured man too." the beast jumped out the window with the woman. "please- please save my wife." the man begged. Leorio tended to him because he's apparently a medical professional. the rest of us chased after the beast.

Gon jumped up the trees. man this kid is talented.  Gon fell but i caught him luckily. "amazing, that thing can speak!" Gon jumped up and hit him with his fishing rod. he dropped the woman and Kurapika caught her. Gon ran after the beast while me and Kurapika made sure she was ok. Leorio ran up to us and asked if we were ok but he seemed a bit off and Kurapika seemed to notice that as well. he hit him in the head with his sword. 'Leorio' started laughing. "how did you know? why? how did you know i was fake?" he transformed into one of those beasts.

"i didn't know you were fake. i told Leorio just now to look after the injured man. knowing that the beast might reappear, you left the injured man behind and appeared without a care so i knew somethings up." he stood up and took my hand. "now answer me." he put the sword to the woman's throat. "who are you?" she smiled.

fast forward
we were now sitting in front of the creatures. "it's been many years since someone could tell us apart. i'm delighted." Leorio leaned over. "can you tell their voices and appearances apart?" "not at all." Kurapika responded. "the one Kurapika and i hit was the husband." Gon replied.

fast forward again cause i'm tired 😃
we finally arrived in Zaban. the navigator took us to a cafe. he took us to a back room with a table and four chairs. "i'm starving!" Gon complained. "me too. is there anything we can eat? please 🥺" i pleaded. i looked over at Kurapika who seemed to have blushed? "i'm sorry there isn't." the navigator replied before he walked out." me and Gon sighed. "looks like this room is an elevator." Kurapika said as the room started moving.
