Jealousy. It was the only thing that Hermione felt right now. She was jealous and she didn't bother to hide it. Gripping her goblet tight in her hands, her eyes narrowed as Pansy’s grip on Draco’s arm tightened. Couldn’t Pansy tell that Draco didn't want her anywhere near him? Was she really that blind?
‘I missed eating food in the Great Hall,’ Ron muttered to Harry as he took a mouthful of food. He groaned slightly but Hermione didn't answer him back or even say how disgusting he was for chewing with his mouth open. She was entirely too busy trying not to throw a hex at Pansy Parkinson.
Pansy and Draco were sitting at the Slytherin table which was right in front of Hermione, just in front of the Hufflepuffs table. Pansy had claimed Draco’s arm as her own since she was hanging onto him as though her life depended on it. Draco himself was looking quite tired of her but he said nothing, just stared down at his plate and answered Pansy whenever she asked him something.
Suddenly his grey eyes shot to Pansy as her hand glided across his flat stomach. She whispered something into his ear which Hermione didn’t want to know or care about. Draco suddenly looked away from Pansy and his grey eyes fixed onto Hermione instead. Totally not expecting his gaze on her, Hermione tried to smooth out her jealous glare but it only became more profound. Draco smirked at her and then turned to Pansy. He leaned down and was soon glued to Pansy’s mouth as Pansy held onto him tighter. Her hands gripped his neck and Hermione felt herself wanting to be the girl to grip onto Draco Malfoy.
Could he be any more of a pig? Hermione thought, looking disgusted at the intimacy. They were in public sight after all but she guessed that didn't matter to them in any way. She looked away, ripping her eyes off of Draco, just as Ron spoke up.
‘How exactly did I break up with Lavender?’ he asked, cautiously glancing at Lavender who was sitting behind the Slytherin’s table.
‘You... um...’ Hermione paused and they looked at Lavender. Her expression was one that Hermione would never forget. She clutched her spoon and stared right at them with a desperation that was clear in her eyes. Everyone around her was being careful so as not to annoy her or make it obvious that they were staring at her; they didn’t do a good job of that, ‘well... she came to see you in the hospital wing and you talked... it wasn’t a particularly long conversation, I must say. Don’t you... don’t you remember anything from that night?’
Harry looked up at this with raised eyebrows. Ron had said Hermione’s name in his sleep whilst he was in the hospital wing and even Harry was curious to see if Ron remembered. Would this be the spark to ignite Ron and Hermione’s relationship? Ron glanced at her and then screwed up his eyes as though in deep thought. Hermione played with her hands nervously. They waited.
‘Well... there is something. But... no... it couldn’t be,’ Ron chuckled slightly, waving it off. Hermione raised her eyebrows expectantly but he just shook his head, ‘I was completely boggled, right?’
‘Boggled... yes,’ Hermione whispered, feeling Harry’s eyes on her. She was a little disappointed, she had to admit. Hermione wanted to ask Ron why he had said her name but she couldn’t ask him if he thought the idea to be ridiculous.
‘I’m bloody thrilled to be shot off her,’ Ron said, smirking slightly.
There was an awkward silence where Harry smiled at Ron. Then his green eyes turned to Hermione, feeling her pain since he felt like this with Ginny. Then his eyes dropped to the paper in front of him and they ate their dinner in silence. Hermione couldn't wait to get into bed and just lie there, thinking about everything until sleep took over but she knew she had to tutor Draco tonight; it seemed more of a chore than a thrill.
