"What's wrong, Nat?"
Too deep in thought, I jumped and shrieked, startled by the sudden voice, as I didn't realize Jess came into the living room. I put my hand on my racing heart to calm myself, making Jess mumble an apology for scaring me to death as she lightly chuckled. Once I calmed my frightened self and metaphorically wiped away the embarrassment of being scared so easily, I decided to confine in Jess.
"I'm getting married."
She scrunched her eyebrows in confusion at my vague statement. I knew it wouldn't take long for her to understand what I mean, so I waited patiently for her to get the hint. As if on cue, her jaw fell open in shock.
"You said yes to the deal?!"
I reluctantly nodded my head as Jess excitedly clapped her hands, excitement rolling off her in waves. She has a bright smile on her face as she squeals, cheering up my mood. Jess is the type of person whose emotions rub off on others. She's always in a cheerful, happy mood and everyone around her has the same emotions.
At least someone is happy about the situation I'm in because I know Enzo and I aren't.
As Jess was celebrating, Ace and Tia strolled into the living room. Ace had a mischievous smirk on his face, informing me that he is about to annoy me. Tia strode into the room with a slight frown, presumably restless because we are taking forever to watch the movie with her.
"Wait until you hear about what they did in Boss's office today," Ace joined in.
I turned towards him and jokingly slapped his arm, seeing my predictions are correct. The first words out of his mouth were meant to mess with and embarrass me as I expected. In turn, Jess gave me a questioning look, urging me to explain what Ace is talking about.
"Nothing happened in Enzo's office."
Jess and Ace gave each other knowing looks, seeing right through my lie. Sighing at the both of them, I decided to give in and tell them what happened, but before I could, Tia chipped in.
"Nat and uncle are getting married?!"
My eyes widened as I realized that she listened to most of Jess and I's conversation earlier. I could hear Ace chuckling behind me, which only made me lightly slap his arm again a little harder this time so he'd get the hint. A hushed ouch came from Ace, making a content smile form on my face. Jess turned to Tia and beamed at her, feeding into her daughter's excitement.
"Yes, they are Tia."
"You are going to be my auntie!!" Tiana cheered as she did a happy dance.
I couldn't help but giggle at how adorable she is, finding her actions sweet. Her words belatedly sunk in making me comprehend that I'm now a part of their family. I finally have the family I always wanted, and when I get married, I'll officially be her auntie. My heart warms at the idea, causing a huge grin to spread across my lips.
"I'm going to go tell uncle!"
Jess looked at Tiana as her eyes widened after hearing what her daughter exclaimed. My smile fell as I watched Tia start to run to wherever Enzo was, unsure if he wanted me to tell people, but it's too late now. I have no clue how he will respond to Tia talking about us getting married, but I hope he doesn't get mad at me or Tia for bringing it up.
Jess didn't appear as worried as I am about the situation, so I brushed it off and focused back on our conversation. As if noticing something is off about me, her eyes scanned my body, making me nervously shift in my spot. I know it won't take her or Ace long to see the mark on my neck from being choked.
