Finish It
Molly Maguire was listening to Mike Soborno's detailed summery of where they were, but her attitude in recent months had become more and more negative to the point of, is she heading for a breakdown. "Have you interviewed the girlfriend? she shouted. "And if not then why not? Just as Rusty Richards was about to answer in walked the District Attorney Robert Cussack. "My illustrious team don't have shit for you Robert" once again she was shouting. Robert Cussack had been the West Palm Beach Are's DA for the past three and a half years and was up for re-election in less than six months. Therefor he was never going to take a case to Court unless it was a stone walled certainty. Ninety nor even ninety five percent was not good enough, this was a high profile case that he had to win. He listened to what they had and where they were heading and unlike Molly Maguire he was optimistic. "Sounds like you are on to something with the mask and the name and you say that you are, in answer to Captain Maguire's previous question taking another look at, What was her name? "Cindy Lorene" Answered Detective Richards. "Yes Cindy Lorene" said DA Cussack she is the one who may have had prior knowledge of the Mask. All seems good guy's get it done" At that they were dismissed by their illustrious Captain. "Maybe she and the DA had other things on their minds" thought Mike Soborno. Cindy Lorene when first questioned had told Soborno that she at the time of the incident was visiting her mother in Seattle on the other side of the US. At this time their suspect was in their eyes quite clearly a male and she was not under suspicion. Now things had changed. Soborno and Richards arrived unexpected at the home of Theo Taylor, it was 9am. With no hesitation or by the look on his face nervousness he invited them in. "How can I help you? he asked, sprawling out on a large white leather sofa. "Your Girlfriend Cindy Lorene we would like a word" answered Rusty Richards. And before Theo Taylor could reply a stunning red head walked half naked from a corridor bedroom heading for the kitchen. "Would your friends like some coffee darling? she said in a kind of Marilyn Monroe voice. "Close your mouth Rusty" whispered Soborno, "Your embarrassing" "Would you like some coffee Detectives? asked Taylor, "This is Missy my new live in girlfriend. I'm afraid Cindy left no more than a week after the killings and I have not seen her since. Milk and sugar" "We interviewed her just prior to your release from custody" said Soborno, "She told us that she had only that day returned from visiting her mother in Seattle. Can you confirm this "I can confirm that her mother passed away five years ago at her home in Detroit" said Taylor. "I never met the woman, they hadn't spoken for quite some time, years in fact" The Detectives had no more to say. They drank their coffee, Rusty Richards stared at Missy, thanked Taylor for his co-operation and left. "Incidentally have you ever heard the name Georgie mentioned? "Never" answered Theo Taylor. We have got to find this woman, and soon" said a dejected Mike Soborno, "Molly Maguire will have negligence written all over this. To keep our paperwork in order check with most likely American Airlines with regards to Cindy Lorene flying to Seattle. I know we already know the answer, but she may have taken a flight in the two weeks following the Homicides. I will check Bank records and phone records, I imagine both have been wiped clean but you never know" Maria Martinez was placing together in small details the movements of the unknown three from her base in Miami and she had found a missing link. It was time to touch base with Detective Soborno. "Hay Martinez" said Soborno when the call came in. "I hope you have some good news for me we are up to our knees in shit up here and sinking fast" "Climb out of that shit pit Mike" answered Maria Martinez "I think we have a breakthrough, it seems that Brock, Malone and Bastow all worked for the Prison service in Miami around the same time. It is not yet clear if they were acquainted but a bit much of a coincidence don't you think? "Great work Martinez" said Soborno, "Do you have a time? " "2004 through 2008 is as much as I can find, I'll just keep digging, go have a shower" Just as expected Credit cards and Phone records drew a blank. Rusty Richards was now working on the possibility of any relatives, mainly brothers or sisters, but the first name to emerge from the woodwork was that of a Katherine Ridgemore now Paterson the sister of Cindy Lorene's mother Olivia Ridgemore Lorene who was registered at 1820 Belmont Heights Fort Myers Florida no more than a two hour drive from their headquarters in Palm Beach. They intentionally did not ring ahead, surprise to a Detective can be a lethal weapon. As the door opened they were confronted by a large, bald, heavily tattooed guy, not at all what they expected in this respectable looking suburb. "Good morning" said Rusty Richards showing his badge, "Tyrone Paterson I presume, I am Detective Richards and this is Detective Soborno. We would if possible like a word with your wife Katherine, would she be at home? The words, she is not here were simulating from his lips when a voice from behind him shouted, "Tell them we are not buying,Ty and close the door" He quickly changed tack saying, "Do you have a search warrant? "We do not want to search your place Mr Paterson. We wish to speak with your wife" said Mike Soborno showing his frustration by pushing his way into the house. "Now we can do this one of two way's we can sit and have a chat on your not to comfortably looking sofa's or we can head down town to a less comfortable interrogation room, the choice is yours" "What do you want to know? asked Katherine Paterson, seeming more nervous than they expected. "We are trying to contact your niece Cindy Lorene, she may have some information regarding a multiple homicide in Palm Springs. Are you aware of her whereabouts? asked Soborno. "I am sorry Detective" she answered, "I have not seen my niece in a long time" Her phone rang, she picked it up and pressed off. It rang again she switched the phone off completely. "I must warn you Mam that with held information in a crime as serious as this could land you in prison for two to five years" said Detective Richards, "Now I repeat the question, when did you last see Cindy Lorene? There was a long pause as they stared at each other wondering what to do. "She has been living with us for the past four weeks" said Tyrone Paterson. "I am sorry Katherine but we cannot get involved in something she may or may not have done" His wife did not answer she was in floods of tears. "Where is she now? asked Soborno. "She left around an hour ago to do some shopping, if she sees your car outside she won't come in" answered Tyrone. "You stay here Rusty, I'll move the car" said Soborno making for the door. Mike Soborno waited and watched. His mobile rang, it was Maria Martinez, "I have something for you" she said, "I think you'll like it. I was talking to some ex- prisoners from around the time we are looking at relating to Rockend Juvenile Facility Miami, no one wanted to give me anything relating to the three deceased, and then I mentioned Cindy Lorene. "Ye I knew her in Juvi" said this Mexican woman, "Georgie sure had a hard time" "I asked her Georgie, what do you mean? "Her middle name was George from her grandfathers side, her name was Cindy George Lorene, we all called her Georgie. Where are you and Richards, has your luck changed? "Wrap it up Martinez, make your way home" Was all Mike Soborno could say.
