                                                                              WHO AND WHY

Rusty Richards listened to the recording of the interview along with hearing the substance of Molly Maguire's outburst from his partner. "It's just to simple" he said, sipping on his fourth cup of coffee in the past hour. "If he is the guy looking in the mirror to let us see who he is, then why not plead guilty and tell his story, I mean there has to be a story you just don't kill four people for no reason. Mike you gorra talk to me? Mike Soborno sat at the opposite side of the desk, head in hands. "I don't fuckin know Rusty, I'm as confused as you are. I just can't get away from his reaction at his office and I swear Rusty he behaved just the same in there. I tell you partner this guy is innocent but our job is to prove his guilt. We need to get some sleep, It's been a long strange day"                                                                                                                                                                             The following morning the intrepid duo were back at the crime scene. There was an eerie silence as the forensic team searched for clues to the identity of the three unknowns. "What have you got for me Chester? asked Mike Soborno, approaching the man who had single-handedly solved more killings in the State of Florida than any who had gone before him. He was Professor Chester Gibson a man so revered that even Molly Maguire had been known to listen to him speak for fifteen minutes without interrupting. "OK, guy's" said Chester opening in his usual professional way, "We have combed every inch of this living-room, but as you seen in the video the assailant entered wearing, unlike his victims, a full compliment of clothing. He was according to the timer on the camera here for no more than ten minutes. We have matched the bodies with the clothes we found lying around according to sex, height and weight and fingerprints, and they are being identified as we speak. One strange fact I can tell you is that on the Video the killer appeared to have sexual intercourse with the lady on the dining room table. We checked overnight for semen and against the DNA of your suspect, there is neither in the vagina of the dead woman. We can meet up later today when I have finalized my report on the crime scene, the autopsies will take a little longer"                                                                                                "What the hell just happened" said Rusty Richards. "We watched him take her from behind"             "Or did we" answered Mike Soborno, "There was no sound to the video, could he have been simulating an abusive sex act on her, he could have been screaming at her, this we will never know. What seems clear from the video is that Melissa Taylor was the intended target and the other three were in the wrong place at the wrong time. But for now we can have a look around and get back to the Station I need to have another look at that video we only have twenty four hours custody left with Theo Taylor before the DA makes his decision. My guess is that he will judge that a face in a mirror can be doctored, but the evidence of his fiance cannot, therefor he will most likely let him go pending our inquiry.                                                                                                         Mike Soborno was a lifetime Cop, straight out of College into the Miami Police Academy. His grandfather had been on the Force and his father had spent most of his adult life in and out of Prison, so he reckoned it had skipped a generation and here he was. He met his wife to be when he accidentally arrested her while on a raid in a downtown Miami Night Club. Lydia was one of the barmaids but was on her way back from the ladies room and got caught up in the mayhem. He began flirting with her during her interrogation and eighteen months later they were married in a Catholic Ceremony at a small Church in the suburbs of Miami. Two promotions and two kids followed in quick succession and six months after making Detective they moved to West Palm Beach. Lydia worked as a receptionist at a local sports club while the kids Megan (eighteen) and Patrick (seventeen) both attended the local Joshua Levine High School, all in all life was good.        Rusty Richards on the other hand could not have been more different. He was raised in a bible thumping middle class American Family in Springfield Missouri where his Father was the local Preacher and his mother a published writer. At the age of eighteen he had enlisted in the Army, mainly to escape the church and had served two tours of Iraq before leaving the Military and joining the Police Force in his home town of Springfield one night on a routine call out to a suspected robbery. Rusty was twenty five years old at the time. They were confronted by a gang of around fifteen bikers who after assaulting the owner in a grocery store were helping themselves to his goods, mainly alcohol. Guns were drawn by both sides, shots were fired. Two of the bikers and Rusty's partner lay dead as the scene became surrounded by Squad cars. Not being able to settle he moved to West Palm Beach and joined the local force. Although both the same age at forty five Rusty and Mike lived completely different lives. On one hand Mike Soborno the solid barbecues at weekends family man and on the other Rusty Richards the single never married guy who only dated single divorced or widowed women from the affluent Upper West side of town. The one thing that glued them together was their passionate belief in justice for all and to this end on the second afternoon of the inquiry they were sitting across a desk, coffee in hand brainstorming the Theo Taylor case.                                                                                                                   "Play the tape one more time? said Mike Soborno, the reality being he could think of nothing else to say. Rusty pressed play and they both stared at the screen. "Who is this guy? said Mike Soborno. What were his intentions when he walked into the room. Were they initially to kill or merely frighten the four deceased. Did they say something to aggravate the situation, or even to calm it down. Was his intended target always Melissa Taylor or one of the other three" "Play it back? said Rusty, "play it slow" "What do you see? asked Mike. "I don't know, he answered, "Just watch. They both sat quietly staring at the screen. Rusty played it back and forward a dozen times. "Did you see that Mike? he said. "See what" replied his confused partner. "A wiggle" said Rusty, "he has a wiggle, the shooter is gay, he has an effeminate walk" "Play it again? said Mike. "As slowly as possible" "Can you see it? asked Rusty, moving his pencil from side to side across the killers buttocks in time to his movements. Mike Soborno stood up from his chair and walked around the desk three maybe four times. "Did Theo Taylor have a gay lover? he said, "did someone else in the room have a gay lover, could this be why the sex event didn't really happen, but it must be someone familiar with the suspect, hence the image in the mirror. We have some digging to do my friend into the life of Theo Taylor for as I said before we are now trying to prove the innocence of our only suspect "
