                                                                                   The Confession

The door opened she walked in, her first vision was that of Detective Richards, she turned back to the door and now in front of her stood Mick Soborno. "Cindy George Lorene" he said, "I am arresting you in connection with the murder of Jason Bastow" and he read her her rights.                "Might I have a moment? she asked, in a low almost humble voice.                                                                "Of course" answered Detective Soborno.                                                                                                                 Cindy Lorene hugged her aunt and uncle, there were tears from all three and the affection was plain to see. On the two hour drive to Palm Springs she stared out of the car window like a lost little girl, not a word was spoken. At the Station Cindy Lorene was photographed, finger-printed and given a hot meal. The detectives decided to leave the interrogation until the morning for two reasons, firstly, to get up to speed with all that Detective Martinez had found and secondly, a Defense Solicitor had been appointed by County Hall and was scheduled to arrive at 11 am.             The Detectives sat at one side of the table, the appointed Solicitor, a man well known to them, at the other. The accused entered the room flanked by two female police officers and as she was seated her handcuffs removed. Mike Soborno switched on the microphone and the recorder. "Interview beginning at 11-13 am subjects present are, please state your names" "Detective Rusty Richards" "Conor Braden Solicitor" Detective Mike Soborno" and lastly "Cindy Lorene"         Richards began, "You understand miss Lorene that you have been charged with the unlawful killing of Jason Bastow and the possible charge of three more homicides. We feel at this time that we have more than enough evidence to take this to court, but we both feel in our guts that there is a story behind what you have done and we would like to give you the chance to have your say, remembering that what you say will be your denial or your confession. Have a word with Mr Braden, take as long as you like" The tape was switched off and the Detectives left the room.                                                                                                                                                                                          Once again the four sat at the table, "My client is of a mind that she would like to tell her account of what happened and the reasons behind them" said Conor Braden.                                                           "Interrogation of Cindy Lorene reconvened at 11-52 am subjects present as before" said Mike Soborno.  Cindy Lorene sat in a moments silence and then, "My upbringing when I was very young was wonderful. My father owned an upholstery store where my mother worked three days a week. We lived in Oakland Heights a small little town around sixty miles east of Miami. Next door to our right was my aunt on my mothers side, her name was Georgie we were very close. On the other side lived a family named Crossfield at that time in my life the most horrible despicable people on god's earth. My parents and the Crossfield's were at constant wars with one another, the father had a serious alcohol problem while the twenty stone mother very rarely left the front porch for fear of not getting back up the stairs. The three children were in and out of care, were on a week long visit when the second oldest son, who was around sixteen confronted me in the street saying every disgusting word his tiny brain could think of. I kept walking towards my house, but he was pushing me. My mother had seen him from the lounge window and confronted him at our gate, he was a big lad. My mother tried to close the gate but he kicked it open knocking my mother to the ground. I ran terrified into the house watching from the window as he bent over my mother to strike her. In the corner of the room I could see my father,s Golf Clubs, I took hold of one of them, ran down the stairs and struck the boy twice on the back of his head. My next recollection was sitting in a Police Station being told that he may have serious brain damage . In court self defense was ruled out as I was not the one under threat and I was given Three to Five years at the Northampton Juvenile Facility south of Miami, I was fifteen years old.                                                                                                                                                                                     "I think we should take a break for some coffee and food" said Detective Richards, "We can resume in the afternoon"                                                                                                                                                      "I want to carry on while it is in my head, I am fine" answered Cindy Lorene. "Very well" said Richards.                                                                                                                                                                                    "After around six weeks at Northampton, Cathy Brock arrived. Strip searches seemed to be her greatest pleasure where she would rub her hands all over your body and watch to see your reaction. Her secondary pastime was coming into the showers, she would tap you on the ass with her two foot long stick or run it between your legs saying, "The real thing is available if required" Then there was our holier than thou Priest Father Patrick Malone, his pleasures were giving you a one on one private audience where he would discuss Lesbianism and the use of Vibrators saying that God had given everyone feelings that must be addressed. Jason Bastow our Psychologist, his intentions were clear right from the start. He quickly let it be known that he sat on the Parole Board and for personal favors he could pre-empt my early release after two and a half years saving me from moving to an adult Prison when I turned eighteen, all of this while rubbing the inside of your thigh. Although none of this was accepted Bastow began coming to my cell number 212 at least once every week around midnight and there was no point in resisting as Cathy Brock had let him in and Father Patrick Malone watched through the small window on the door and when Bastow knew he was being watched he became more inventive. I was not the only victim in Northampton there were many girls suffered Staff abuse in my Two and Half years at the Facility. On my release I was placed on a one year Probation Order not unexpectedly supervised by Jason Bastow, it felt as if I had never left Prison. During my time at Northampton my father was killed in a traffic accident and my mother as you already know moved to be with family in Detroit. When the year was over I dissapeared taking a job at a Restaurant in Palm Beach, as the years passed I thought the whole thing was over. I met Theo Taylor one night in a Nightclub, I could see from the outset that he was a Coke Head, but when he was not snorting he was a real nice guy and very rich. I had met his ex wife Melissa on a few occasions and she seemed fine with me, and when you think of her profession she really had no other choice. On the day in question I had taken round to the house some legal documents for her to sign. When I reached the door there was no answer, I made my way to the pool area and was confronted by the sight of Cathy Brock and Patrick Malone laughing and having drinks on the sun-loungers. I wanted to run over and confront them but decided to take a moment. I returned to the main entrance where a car had pulled up in the drive and out stepped Jason Bastow. "Hello" he said, "Is the lady of the house at home? I had arrived on my Bicycle and was wearing my Lycra suit, cap and goggles therefor he did not recognize me. I panicked pushed passed him and ran to my bike. I waited all day knowing in my mind that I must do something, not only for myself but for all of the young girls who suffered in Northampton Theo was on an all day stag do and I knew when he came home he would have taken enough stuff up his nose to keep him unconscious until the morning I did not want to hurt Theo nor indeed Melissa but the pull of revenge was just to great. Knowing about the face masks which were kept in a cupboard in the Garage I devised the plan as you have seen on the CCTV cameras. I also knew of a blind spot track from the main gate to the entrance of the house which Theo had created intentionally as he would constantly creep in during the early hours of the morning. I entered the house carrying a gun which I had bought for protection a few years previous. As I approached them they were in some kind of naked sexual encounter. The first one to look at me was Jason Bastow" Soborno interrupted, "We know what he said to you Cindy" he said, "but what did you say to him to make him recognize you?                                                                                                                        "Cell 212, I said Cell 212" she answered and he knew who it was. I opened fire and killed Brock, Malone and Bastow, but Melissa had because of the mask realised it was me, therefor I had to kill her as well. Leaving I glanced at the mirror knowing I was pointing the blame at Theo, but my head was not thinking straight. I went back to the flat, got into bed and myself and Theo Taylor woke up in the morning just like any other morning, until your knock on the door"                               The three men were speechless. "You realize my dear that you are committing yourself to a very long Prison sentence" said Conor Braden. "I understand" was all she said.                                                 When Cindy Lorene's testimony was read out in Court there was hardly a dry eye to be seen and the sympathy for what had happened to her and others was overwhelming. When Mike Soborno was giving evidence for the prosecution he felt uneasy, so much so that he interrupted the DA,s examination to voice his discussed at the behavior of his so called colleagues in the Florida Legal and Social systems and said that he would make it a priority for the remainder of his life as a Law enforcement Officer to seek justice for the young women of Northampton and the subsequent imprisonment of any Official involved . When summing up the case, Judge Clifton Millbank referred to what he had heard as a blithe on society in that individuals in a place of authority could exploit vulnerable children for their own pleasure or gain, and "yes" he said, I along with everyone in this courtroom had a tear in my eye. Therefor it is my legal obligation, although with some element of sympathy I sentence the accused to four life sentences with the order that she will serve no less than forty years behind bars. Take her down"                                         Cindy "georgie" Lorene would collect her State Pension while still in Prison.
