"Hey mum. Good morning."

Breanna dipped her hand into the batter her mum was preparing for pancakes.

She was a fifteen year old who found half her social life circulated in her phone. Her eyes  travelled the screen of her phone with a keen face searching for a message from someone she had been chatting with all night long.

Just then Kiara walked in, "Hey Brea, morning Ms. Peters"

Kiara was always jolly and had a good sense of humor but Breanna wasn't too excited to see her today. She kept her face buried in her phone.

"Kiara, you're just in time for breakfast. We're having pancakes."  Ms.Peters said.

"Ohh! I'm starved," she said as she set the table.

Ms. Peters always admired Kiara's good habits, she wished  Breanna could learn a few things other than texting. Breanna was the top of her class but wasn' t really helping as her mum wanted at home.

"Stan! It's time for breakfast," Ms. Peters called out.

Eight year old Stan slid down the stair railings landing in front of his mum.

"Hmm! I smell pancakes,"

"Stan, I've warned you about sliding down the railings. It' s dangerous. You could fall and break your neck." His mum said.

But Stan wasn't paying attention. He was busy piling pancakes on his plate.
For an eight year old, he was a heavy eater but he wasn't fat. He was just as good looking as his father.

Mr. Peters, his father, had abandoned his family seven years ago and had since then never been spoken of. All pictures of him had ever since been put away.

"Time for breakfast Breanna." Ms. Peters said collecting Breanna's phone, "you'll have your phone back after breakfast."

Breanna had an annoyed look on her face but she couldn't say a word to her mum. It wouldn't be a smart thing to do. She walked to the table quietly.

"Hey Kiara,"
"Oh! So you finally noticed I exist,"

Having no fitting reply, Breanna only smiled and continued with her meal. She couldn't help but think of one person.
The name 'SMITH' kept ringing in her head.

"Breanna? Why' re you smiling like that?'
Stan asked. He had noticed his sister enjoyed day dreaming these days.

Smith was the cute boy in Breanna's class. The guy she had had a crush on since yesterday. She had never really noticed him until yesterday, although he was one of the elite students of their school.

Smith on the other hand had been crushing on her for over a month now.
He had always been to shy to 'make a move'.

Surprisingly, Breanna never took any real notice of his friends bugging him to talk to her at school.
Her cute round face always stuck in a book.

Breakfast was over now.
Breanna decided to go to her 'second apartment' where she had all the freedom she desired to use her phone as she liked.
"Mum! I'm off to Taylor's! ... Kiara, wanna come?"
"Yeah,sure."

Kiara had no choice - an only child with divorced parents and one friend in the whole world wouldn't have a choice.

Only a few walks to Taylor's house and Kiara had to cancel. Her dad wanted her at home. Breanna, a little bummed, had to continue the rest of the walk alone. She solemnly walked to Taylor's house. By 1:30pm, she was there.
