The first school bell went as the students of Chippendale High rushed into their respective classes. Breanna walked with Kiara quite unbothered about being late to their Chemistry class. She had no zeal for school that morning.

"Today class we'll all be switching lab partners and I have made my list." Ms. Montgomery announced. The whole class groaned at the sound of this, they all didn't want to switch partners.

Breanna got Jake as her partner, while Kiara got Smith. Kiara groaned the loudest.

The mean boy that broke Breanna's heart.

Smith wasn't any more excited than she was. Kiara was much too dull for him.

Kiara wasn't academically strong, so she always had to hide behind Breanna's brilliance. Now that they had switched lab partners, she had no one to 'protect' her. She didn't want to look like a dunce in front of Smith, she was certain he would spread to the whole school telling them how silly she was.

Breanna looked over to the other end of the laboratory where Kiara and Smith were,

Ohh my God, she looks completely hopeless.

Deep down, she knew she would love to be in Kiara's position, being partners with Smith.

Kiara and Smith hardly spoke throughout the class. They only ever said:
"Sorry."
"Excuse me."

Smith did most of the work while Kiara did as little as taking the readings.

Ten minutes to the end of the class, the students were expected to take a short test based on the experiment they had done.

Everyone except Kiara was at work. She looked at the board wondering what each question meant. It looked like Ms. Montgomery had scribbled jargons on the board.

After staring at the board perplexed, she turned to look at Smith. His eyes were so focused on his test papers, his body and soul tied to the chemistry test.

He doesn't understand the concept of a group test.

Such a big ol' meanie

She looked away and stared at the board again. This time, she looked focused like she knew what she was doing. She racked her brain for answers that weren't there.

Unknown to her, Ms. Montgomery had been staring at her the whole time.

Suddenly, the bell went. This disrupted Kiara's thoughts completely.

How can ten minutes be so short?

She had not even attempted a single question. It was written all over her face that she was in despair.

Ms. Montgomery gave Kiara a hard stare as she submitted.
"Make sure you see me before today is over."

Kiara held her head down in shame. She walked out gloomily when Breanna walked up behind her, giving her a peck on her cheek.

"I'm so sorry about the test."
"It's okay Brea, totally not your fault," she replied, "If only I had good brains just like you."

"Smith, I overheard Ms.Montgomery singing your praises to the principal." Julian said.

Smith wasn't listening. He had his eyes fixed on Judy the whole time. He wasn't over her yet.

"Smith?" Julian called out.
"Smith!"
"Oh I'm sorry," he said, "I was lost for a moment, I'm sorry."
"Please, don't be." Julian said trying to be sarcastic.
"Okay, I won't be." Smith replied, getting up to leave the cafeteria.
