THERE WAS THIS SAYING. Old folks would tell a tale that was perhaps— neither a lie nor the truth. It was just, something that existed.

Their lips spilt oaths that were never meant to be said.

"So, since today is the first day of internship, it won't be as exerting or exhausting!" Hawks exclaimed, clasping his hands together with a wide smile. "The Hawks Agency is based on both offence and defence; whether rescue or combat. And I will ensure that both of you will receive the best training reign ever."

"Woah really?! That sounds awesome!" Shindo's eyes sparkled with fabricated awe, as he continues to ramble on. "I can't wait to improve on my skills! And it sounds so sick! Not only combat, but rescue too? Count me in!"

The blonde haired hero glanced by your monotonous expression. No smile, no dreading. You were just, staring at him.

Why?

'He's going to do that training.' Your inner consciousness warned you, as it echoed through the bloods that spilled within your body. 'Run away.'

Run.

Run.

Run.

But, don't people change? What if he changed? After all, the way he greeted you was different than how he treated you before. People change over time. Perhaps his intentions has changed? Maybe he reflected over time and decided to stand up for his mistakes?

But he is still a vigilante.

People lie.

People don't change, they learn to hide. They learn to hide those hideous intentions by masking it with giddy little thoughts.

And as time passes, they get better at hiding.

They could hide it so well, that maybe it even became apart of their persona.

What if he did it again?

What if he did the checkup?

What if he sent you back?

What if what if what if. There were so many "what if's"— too many possibilities that could occur. The painful and torturous past that you wanted to leave behind.

Why did you even let your guard down?

What foolish thoughts. It would've been better picking your brother over someone who'd assisted All for One in his unlawfully evil schemes.

No one's personality could ever change— it can only be acted out, performed, staged and faked. Their personality is already carved in, embedded within them; changing it was an unspoken miracle.

That's why, the younger you are, the earlier you had to hide it. Hide the sins— greed, lust, gluttony, envy, sloth, wrath, pride.

Hide them, don't show them.

Hush, observe, don't talk.

"-Y/N)... (Y/N)? Can you hear us?" Hawks and Shindo nudged your shoulder, looking at you with those eyes. "Oh my god how could you even daydream during an internship-"

People couldn't be trusted.

Then why did you pick him?

Why were you so blinded by your own selfish reason; just to be a vigilante?

"Sorry! I really need to go get some fresh air." You excused yourself, bowing slightly before heading towards the door.

What if he sent you back?

What would happen?

"(Y/N)! Are you alright?" Shindo ran, as he caught up to you. You could see Hawks silhouette from the shadows— he was flying above, perhaps trying to eavesdrop. "Do you feel unwell? Perhaps I can-"

Breathe.

Breathe.

"I'm fine." You muttered, as your (H/C) hair locks danced by the rhythm of the wind. "Just needed my own space."

Look at his fake concern, how laughable.

Remember, survive.

Survive this cruel world. Live and survive— the weak will die, the strong would live. That was the rules of life.

Live? Brazen, you were already living.

Love? Who had time for a non-existent craving.

Lie? Weren't we all lying?

See, since a young age, majority of the people grew up with love and affection. They grew up within a supportive society that believed in them. They grew up with a morale that heroes are the celestial Gods, endlessly hailing their supremacy bestowed upon the title.

Heroes were the celestial Gods that blessed upon heavenly star drops to mere humans— saving society from the damned cunning villains that tore pure souls into misery.

Society was lying to everyone.

Classifying villains as the bad. Heroes as the good. What is this absurdity? They deem the perspective ones who oppose the ideology of heroes as the villains?

Then, wouldn't that make the heroes the bad ones?

Scandalous lies and deceit would carelessly roll out of one tongue, mere mortals deceiving God themselves.

"(Y/N) are you feeling alright?" Hawks came by as his wings gently fluttered, gracefully landing down by you and Shindo; coated by an atmosphere of silence. "Shindo, you can head back to the building. Get a rest for a while, we'll start training in an hour or two."

"Oh, sure!" Sprinting back, you were then left alone with Hawks; the chicken man.

"(Y/N)... Why are you..." He reached out a hand to place onto your shoulder, however you flinched, causing him to retract his arm. "Are you scared... Because of before?"

The crisp wind howled past, curling your hair with its breezy fingertips.

"I... I'm sorry about it... I swear!" Holding his hands up in defence, he sighed. "Look, I know that you probably detest me from it but, really I changed."

What foul lies.

Why do people keep lying?

Why?

"Shut up." You closed your eyes before you took a deep breath. "Just shut up. You aren't sorry."

"No (Y/N). I really am! Can't you see I-"

"I told you to shut up." Your eyes mildly glowed into neon (E/C) colour, as Lucifer lurked within the pair of greedy eyes. "Shut the fuck up."

"Why won't you listen to me?" He sighed in frustration, biting his lip. "Can't you just-"

"Then why didn't you listen to my pleads?" You snapped back, holding back tears that were threatening to roll of your porcelain clear skin. "Why didn't you listen to me when I wanted to be let out?"

"Why?" Hawks laughed, before ruffling his hair. "You're asking me why?"

He leaned by your ear, whispering the devil's secret that should have been left untold— for it was an unforgivable tale.

"Why did you let Touya die?"
