A story in which two expert demonslayers, Serena and Harry, attempt to take down a demon that's been haunting their dreams.
Warning: a lot of violence, demons, nightmares, repeated use of weapons (daggers and guns), blood (!!!), strong language, injuries, possession, and a brief mention of previous deaths not depicted in the story. Please read with caution, I cannot stress that enough. Thank you!

ONE
The first time Serena hears the noise, she doesn't think much of it. She gets those kinds of dreams often, the ones she can't explain, so the next morning when she thinks about her vision, it doesn't seem much of a problem to her. Some people get weird dreams and others get fun ones. Hers tend to be a little frightening, but it isn't something she isn't accustomed to given her gift. If you can call it a gift, at least.
But then she hears the noise again, the soft whisper of her name as if it's a lover telling her to come to him. The more she listens to the voice, the more she can identify the face, and suddenly it becomes clear to her, as she jerks awake, sweat pooling around her, that it's him. She hasn't heard from him in so long, yet here he is, in her dreams begging her to help him.
Mateo, the man she once loved, is pleading with her. "Save me," he whispers to her in her ear so close that she felt his breath against her ear lobe. "I'm here. I'm here."
Dreams can be frightening, she already knows that, and they usually are some indication of a disturbance somewhere near her. She isn't sure if there are other people like her who hear these noises, so when it comes to her job, she takes it very seriously. If nobody's going to do her job, she's going to put her whole heart into it. Most voices she hears are from people who were living, but they are also in grave danger of being murdered or maimed by demons. She's only met one demon who was relatively tame compared to the others who only wanted to hurt a girl who he'd been lusting over for many years because she was getting married, but the others don't stop until their victims were murdered. And brutally too.
Alongside the voices, Serena sees hints, and she's able to piece together where people are going to be murdered and any clues around the area. It normally takes her a week or two to figure everything out and then a few days to manage to stop the murder from occuring. She's been doing this since she turned 19, so to say she is experienced would be an understatement. She is a pro at demon hunting. She can sniff them out if it were in her ability.
But Mateo's voice causes her to sit up in bed and glance around the dark room with terror. He's been dead for three years. He can't be the one whispering in her ear, begging to be saved. He can't be the one revisiting her in her dreams. Dead people don't talk to her.

"Mate, you alright?"
Harry blinks out of his trance, glancing back at his driver. "Sorry?"
"Nothing, you just seemed really out of it. What terminal?"
Harry looks out of the cab window, watching people roll their suitcases into the airport. "Sorry. 2."
