"Kacy," said Rana softly, shaking Kacy. "Kacy."

Kacy turned and opened her eyes to see Rana's wide ones staring right in to her, feeling as if they were piercing her soul.Kacy stretched her arms and slowly wiggled out of her sleeping bag that was encasing her.

"Have a nice sleep?" asked Rana, cooking some broth over the fire.

"Yeah," said Kacy. "Pretty comfy."

Kacy smiled to herself and when she tried to get up, collapsed.

"Ow," she moaned, shutting her eyes. "Ooo."

"Oh!" exclaimed Rana. "I forgot you're knee hurts! Let's take a look, shall we?"

Kacy took a deep breath and nodded her head, with her eyes still shut. Rana pulled the hurt knee out of the sleeping bag slowly, and Kacy whimpered. Rana delicately caressed Kacy's knee, whispering comforting words to her.

To make Kacy not focused on the pain, she asked a question, "So, Kacy, why are you in the forest anyway?"

Kacy opened her mouth to speak, then closed it again to consider the question. Should she lie? Or would the truth be better?

"I'm escaping" she spat, not meaning to sound so rude. Kacy realized the sound of her voice and looked down at the floor embarrassed. "Sorry," she whispered.

"From what? Who? Why?" Rana's then chuckled after all her questions. "That's alright Kacy."

Rana smiled warmly, making a little sprout on Kacy's face as Kacy opened her eyes.

"Okay," whispered Kacy, blushing a bit. She felt like a 6 year old around Rana, and it was embarrassing. Kacy tucked a stray bit of blond hair behind her ear. Rana grabbed her hand.

"Wait!" said Rana, making Kacy stop all her movement. "Can I braid you're hair? It's so pretty."

Kacy made a confused face. "Alright," she said, un-doing the messy bun it was in. She handed Rana the elastic then turned so her back was facing Rana. Kacy's beautiful hair fell down to her waist, and Rana combed her fingers through it. Rana's fingers moved softly in and out. Kacy felt as if Rana was a mother, and she was a child. It was like mother-daughter time that Kacy never had nor remembered.

Kacy sighed as she felt Rana's warm hands touch her head.

"What's wrong, Kacy?" asked Rana, watching Kacy's expression. She looked sad...upset.

"It's just..." Kacy decided not to tell her at that moment. "Nevermind."

"What?" pushed Rana, pulling her hands from Kacy's hair. Suddenly, Kacy felt as if a warmth had been lifted from her and she shivered.

"Nothing," said Kacy, finding her voice raising. "Nothing at all."

Rana glared at Kacy as if she had done something wrong. Rana stirred the broth slowly with her carved wooden spoon. As she did so, she muttered things to herself.

"Breakfast," said Rana, pouring some broth in to two carved wooden bowls like the spoon. She handed Kacy a bowl and sat down on a small camp chair by the fire.

"Where'd you get that?" asked Kacy, pointing to the camp chair while gulping down broth they she was holding in her other hand.

Rana pointed to the chair and questioned, "This ol' thing?"

Kacy nodded.

"Well, I stole it from someone in the city," said Rana, wiping away a broth moustache with the back of her hand.

"You stole it?" asked Kacy surprised. "Why would you steal?"

"Because," stated Rana. "I was desperate.""Yeah, but don't you know stealing isn't good?" Kacy knew that she sounded like a very bossy 13 year old but she didn't care. Edna had taught her not to be bad and steal, so she should share the message, right?

"Yes," said Rana, her voice full of impatience and she rolled her eyes. "But, I was desprate."

"Desperate or not, no stealing," said Kacy, her voice sharp.

"Nevemind," snapped Rana, her indicating that the conversation was over. Rana closed her eyes, took a deep breath and opened them again. "How's the broth?" she asked Kacy.

"Good," mumbled Kacy, a slight bit annoyed. "Where did you get it? Steal it?" Kacy's voice was in a mocking tone, and she was repeatedly rolling her eyes.

"No," said Rana, obvioulsy trying not to shout or snap. "I made it out of natural ingredients."

"Oh," said Kacy, sipping that last bit of broth in her carved wooden bowl. She sighed and so did Rana.

Rana put down her pull, and shook her head. Her chocolate brown hair fell down behind her mask. "Do you know what today is?" she asked excitedly, putting her bowl of broth down and standing up.

"What?" asked Kacy, standing up herself and watched Rana rush toward the door.

"Hunting," Rana's eyes grew wide under her mask as she picked up her bow and arrow from beside the cave opening.

"What?" asked Kacy, a bit confused. Hunting? Who hunts?

"Hunting. Want to come?" Kacy's face twisted as she heard Rana's offer.

"Does it include hurting myself? Or my knee?" Kacy limped toward Rana.

"Well...no, not really. You'll just watch and help every so often," said Rana, waggling her finger so Kacy would walk closer to her.

"O-okay..." said Kacy hesitantly. Kacy limped a bit closer to Rana and Rana slipped a hat on Kacy's delicate head.

"Let's go then!" exclaimed Rana as her eyes widened even wider.

Thats when Kacy realized Rana's green eyes. Emerald green eyes.
