All the girls laughed at Kacy's attempt to say hi. The only thing that came out was squeak. Kacy was blushing deeply and a couple of tears ran down her cheeks. She sighed. She didn't- she probably couldn't- fit in!
Kacy always despised this. Just like Edna despised being-
No, she thought. Don't think about Edna.
This thought made Kacy feel even more depressed. It made her upset, and questions fill her mind. Edna had betrayed her.
She gulped and sighed again. She walked back to the alley and past the boys, her head down.
Was this what it was like to live, because Kacy didn't like living in the then. She was out in the woods. No food, no friends, no shoes, and in pyjamas.
She began to cry. Out loud. The boys stared at her curiously.
"Eh, be quiet, would ya Mate?" said a boy with a strong, thick Australian accent.
"No, I won't. I can't," said Kacy rudely. She stomped her feet.
The boy glared at her and scowled.
"Let's go to a deserted ally, boys," growled the boy. He turned to Kacy. "And next time, be a bit more polite, will ya?"
Kacy just ignored the boy and rested her forehead against the ally wall. The forest was right there.
She had a couple of options.
Stay here in the city, go in to the forest, or go back to The Briggs Manor where Mr. Briggs would be waiting there, furious.
Just then, she heard sirens. Police sirens. There, in front of the ally was the police.
A man stepped out of the car.
"Are you Kacy Miller, part of an experiment to Mr. Briggs plan?" asked the police officer.
Experiment? thought Kacy. Plan?
Kacy nodded her head briefly. She had one chance. One choice. She turned in her heels and jetted towards the woods.
You can do it, Kacy. Just push those legs, she thought.
She heard the loud footsteps of plenty police officers. Muffled voices also came from behind her.
She fumbled her way through bushes and plants. Kacy tripped on a root and fell over, dirt covering her face.
"Ack," she whispered. She hated mud and dirt. It was so...icky.
She rubbed all she could off and rolled to the side and stood up behind a tree.
Kacy hoped they wouldn't find her. She looked at the mud and the leaves and her dirt caked fingernails. She didn't want to do it, but maybe it was the only thing left, or else she would be brought back to Mr. Briggs manor and she'd be tortured. That'd be terrible!
She considered it a second longer, then bent down and rubbed the mud against her face.
"Ugh," whispered Kacy, closing her eyes tightly. This was the worst feeling she had ever felt. The slippery texture on her skin. The grimy pigments.
Kacy groaned as she rubbed some on her arms and legs. Then she stuck some leaves of a bush and some sticks on the mud. It stuck tightly to the mud.
She thought about how she would get all this mud off. And how she would get more clothes.
Kacy sighed and as she heard the footsteps approaching, laid on the ground, trying to be invisible. They ran to the right of her. A bit far off to see her. She sighed a sigh of relief and got off the ground. The mud at plastered to her skin and hair. She winced as she tried to brush off some of the leaves and sticks.
She began walking again. But now it was a lot more uncomfortable, seeing that she was covered in mud. She waddled along, her legs spread far a part. She hoped that she could find a lake. And more clothes!
She thought of the city, but she would be to easy to be caught there. The police- and Mr. Briggs- would hunt her down and eventually find her. Essentially, she was trapped. Again.
But what was worse, she was trapped in a spot she thought she would be free.
