Now, this is the part where I permit you to close the book. You are free to return to your job, watch your television show, or drink the bottle of Merlot you have kept in your fridge.
But unless if you are dying to finish this gripping tale, I suggest that you keep your stomach empty—for what is about to happen may weaken your appetite.
Caleb couldn't believe what he hears: his girlfriend telling a cringy "Yo Mama" joke to a thousand-year-old bat demon. He was not sure if he should be turned on or terrified for his girlfriend's safety.
The monster, on the other hand, didn't seem to care very much about Brooke or the weak sapling between its claws.
All it wanted was a human to feast on.
Releasing Caleb from its grip, the famished Camaztoz charged towards Brooke when she strikes it across the face.
Thin lashes scarred its hairy skin, secreting red liquid which settled on the concrete floor.
Cocking her gun, Brooke blasted twenty rounds at its eyes, stomach, and high cheekbones.
Groaning, the bat carefully lapped up the wounds, while Caleb sprints to his gallant damsel.
"Holy shit, Brooke!" he beamed. "I am so happy to see-"
"Look OUT!" Brooke yelled. She and her lover hit the floor, dodging a sailing hot dog cart flying over their heads. Much to their horror, the cart crashes into an oncoming police car, killing two officers inside.
"Oh, fuck!" Caleb gasped.
Brooke gets up, pulls a frightened Caleb to his feet, hands him his red backpack, and grabs his hand.
"We need to go right now!" she screamed.
And so, the young couple fled on foot. They bowed their heads over the sounds of angry gunfire and suffocating smoke.
They held each other's hands. One police car was thrown into the overturned parade float.
Fire and shrapnel pieces made Caleb jerk Brooke closest to him.
Sweat flowed from his forehead, as they were about to cut through East Harlem when a cop fell right in front of the couple.
His upper torso was gone, but his legs almost scarred Brooke and Caleb to the brink of tears.
Oh, God. Brooke backs away from Caleb—only to step in a puddle of someone else's blood.
She wanted to hurl, but Caleb forced her to keep going.
