Chapter 11 - At cliff's edge

"Oh my god! I think we're actually going to make it out of this alive!!" Evan chirped. The relieved duo eventually runs out of the trees and onto another dirt road at top speed. Suddenly, Evan tries his hardest to stop with all his might. He can see a cliff on the other side of the dirt road which he is facing. "Woah, Woah WOAH!!" He skids on the road, eventually slipping to his waist. Finally, he stops, but not before he gets a good view of the landscape far below.

"Guess we're not going down that way!" Evan smiles shakily. Evan lifts himself and runs back to the road and then turns left to follow the path further.

As he picks up speed, he sees something that makes him slump his shoulders. Around the corner are a few military jeeps heading down the road in his direction. These jeeps have come around to cut him off. Like before, Evan has to skid for a long time before finally being able to turn direction. "No, no, no! Not again..."

Evan dashes in the other direction on the dirt road for about three seconds until he realizes that there's another load of army trucks and jeeps heading towards him in that direction also. He has to brake and slow down yet again. He's been sandwiched.

Evan looks to escape to the forest and sees three men approaching out of the tree line. Ryan and his men are walking out of the forest, eyes sharp and wary. Evan has nowhere to run, so what he can only do is back up slowly against the cliff's edge. He instinctively takes a step back. A lucky situation has saved him so far, but there's no clear way out here. He looks at Nea, who only can offer him worrying sounds.

"N-No... No no no no no no..." Evan stammers. Ryan and the bikers walk slowly and confidently towards the two. Ryan smirks with blazing eyes. The rest of the military arrive and surround Ryan, pointing their guns at Evan. Liz appears, a slight frown on her face.

Evan backs up to the edge of the cliff. He knocks a pebble and looks back to see it fall. The thud echoes in the basin after a few seconds.

"The game is up, kid. I will admit that was a fun little chase we had. But now it's time to act like a big man and turn her in. There's nowhere you can run now. So, hand her over." Ryan flashes a fake smile.

Evan looks at Nea and thinks for a moment if he should hand her over. Right now, he is facing the entire military for a young girl he doesn't even know. Nea looks up, alarmed. Evan looks at her scared face for a while until he thinks what unspeakable things, they would do to her if he handed Nea over to Ryan. He slowly turns back towards Ryan in fear.

"No," Evan says, his voice barely more than a whisper. Nea, understanding that Evan is not giving up on her, feels at ease.

"What was that?!" Ryan barks. Evan, terrified, tries to speak with a tone of authority.

"I said... No..." Evan said with slightly more confidence. Ryan gives him a blank stare, and then he shrugs.

"Well. Guess I will come over there, and take her from you. Can't always do this the easy way, huh?" Ryan flashes a cruel smile. He starts towards Evan, who is shaking. Everything else is silent, save for the wind. Something from Nea's subconscious wells up as she remembers the electrical wire, and the vines they swung on.

"Visualizing is always difficult at first. Take tangible objects and try to copy them."

"WAIT!" Evan screams. To everyone's shock, two energy beams spawn from Evan's back. They resemble thin strips of long carpet and flow down his arms. Both whips stretch and charge toward parked vehicles on either side of Ryan and the dirt bike soldiers, causing the vehicles to fly backward and crash into the trees behind very hard, crushing the vehicles in the process. Soldiers scramble to dodge the incoming bikes and trucks, causing the formation to fall into pure disarray. The soldiers struggle to recover, shaken by the new development.
