I decided to go to his bakery one day. I had put a sign on the door, saying I'd be back in 30 minutes and I locked the doors, heading towards the bakery that I had yet to enter.
When I looked in the window, I could see how well he had decorated the place. It was like a more polished version of my cafe.
There was a dark brick wall behind his counter, but the bricks were glossed over and made even. He had a display case with beautifully decorated pastries. Scattered around the bakery were small potted plants, all in pristine condition. Overall, it was a beautiful bakery that managed to be rustic, yet modern at the same time.
When I opened the door, small bell rang, notifying him of my presence. Once again, he was engrossed in a book. He swiftly grabbed his bookmark from the counter, slipping it in the book as he placed it under the counter, his eyes moving up to meet mine.
"(Y/N)," he smiled as I approached his counter. "What can I get for you?"
The sleeves of his white button down were rolled up, ending just below his elbow, and he casually leaned on the counter.
"I'm not sure. What do you recommend?" I asked him, looking to his display case, filled with numerous pastries.
A raindrop hits the water.
"Everything here is good. And that's not just me being egotistical," he chuckled, eyeing his pastries, as of deciding which one to recommend. "My favourite is probably the cinnamon bun. Or one of the types breads. The breads are better fresh out of the oven though," he debated, looking as if he were restraining himself from listing more items.
"Then I'll try a cinnamon bun," I told him.
It causes a ripple.
"If you come by tomorrow, I'll make sure to have some bread fresh baked for you," he smiled, giving a small, barely noticeable wink as he reached for a cinnamon bun.
"Then I'll make sure to stop by."
And then I stopped by the next day. And the day after that. And the day after that. And so on.
