A raindrop hits the water.

"Do you wanna go out for dinner with me?"

It causes a ripple.

A simple question, but one that changed so much.

Of course I said yes. I enjoyed his company. I liked being with him.

We went to a small restaurant, nothing fancy, and we talked over dinner. He told me all about his post secondary experiences and why he decided to become a pâtissière. I listened to him.

I noticed now, that he made frequent eye contact with me. Every now and then, he looked away, but his eyes always eventually found mine again.

This one dinner caused a chain reaction of many other dinners. We would eat our dinners out on our balconies, chatting about something we'd seen on the news, talking about the meaning of life and other deep things people might speak about when they have dinner. We practically had every dinner together. We both found it most enjoyable.

From then on, things evolved from only eating dinner together, spending Sundays together, and visiting during the day, to going on late night walks and having late night chats through the wall until one of us inevitable fell asleep.

"Are you awake?" I heard through the thin wall.

"Indeed I am," I said back, staring up at my ceiling.

"Can't sleep?" He asked, his voice muffled by the wall.

"Not tired," I shrugged, damn well knowing he couldn't see me.

  "Wanna watch a movie together?"
