Chapter 2.
JellingIt took three long days for the boat to reach Jelling.
"Y/n, please go wake the king and inform him of our arrival in Jelling."
The woman only nodded her head at Gunnar before turning around to go knock on the kings door. The morning where Canute let her rest in his bed she ended up sleeping for the rest of the day, she never had a chance to sleep for more than 3 hours now for the past couple of months so it resulting in being the best sleep she'd had in a while. Because she was so well rested, that natural glow returned to her skin.
Her bags under her eyes had yet to completely disappear, but they were very hard to notice now. Her hair was released from the failure of a bun and now draped over her shoulders.
Raising her hand she knocked three times on the door to hear a light groan sound from inside.
"Your pardon majesty. It is time to wake, the boat has landed in Jelling.. King Canute."
The woman then walked off the boat and onto the land of Denmark-- the cold fall breeze nipped at her cheeks. She observed the busy hometown of the prince, kids running around and playing, mothers putting up wet laundry to dry, men carrying heavy objects.
She flinched when she felt a large hand gently grip her shoulder, she'd let down her guard so she didn't even hear the man approaching from behind. Letting her head turn to face the man, she was surprised to see the king standing behind her.
Yet he was not looking at her, but at the scenery she was so focused on. Blinking her eyes away from the kings blue orbs and down to the ground she turned her head back around.
"Are you feeling better now Y/n?" The king removed his hand from Y/n's shoulder and walked to stand beside her, both of their eyes flickering to meet each other.
'there it is.'
A small shy smile crawled on Y/n's face who averted her eyes to the ring on her finger, she held up her hand in front of her face and admired it.
"I'm feeling much better knowing my husband will be returning to good health." She spoke as a small blush decorated her cheeks, "I can't wait to see him again.." She muttered to herself not thinking her voice was able to catch the kings ears.
"King Canute! Y/n!"
Both of their heads turned in the direction of the voice to see Wulf walking over to the two with another man following not to far behind him. Y/n's face seemed to light up to be reunited with an old friend whom she hadn't seen in a while.
"Wulf!" Y/n welcomed the man with a warm friendly embrace, pulling away from the hug Wulf turned his attention to the king.
"I'm glad to hear of your safe return from England your majesty." Wulf said as Canute acknowledged him with a small nod.
"Wulf, how is my brother the king?" The smile on Wulf's face disappeared as he lowed his head slightly.
"I must admit that King Harald is not in good health, the sickness advanced this month. He is unable to even hold a conversation now." Wulf gave an honest reply.
Y/n had only met king Harald twice, both times he was very nice to her. So she was disheartened when she heard about him becoming sick, she especially felt bad for Canute who told her a couple of stories about him and his brother.
"I see. Then his time is limited."
When Canute spoke, Y/n watched his unmoving facial expression that leaked no emotion. His tone blunt, laced with no sadness or regret.
