When we walked into French, Stella immediately walked up to the teacher and asked if she could be moved to an upper class instead of this one. The teacher asked her what she knew, and she said that she knew most French words and conjugations. When the teacher asked for an example, she said, "Bonjour, professeur, je m'appelle Stella Jade Hass. Je veux monter en classe car j'ai passé un an en France." (Hello, professor, my name is Stella Jade Hass. I would like to move up in classes because I spent a year in France.) The teacher smiled at her and told her to take a seat. After the teacher said the induction speech, he motioned at Stella. "Venez ici (Come here)," he said. She nodded and smiled, her teeth an odd white in the light. "You will not have to sit through this, Ms. Hass." She left through the door and walked to a different class. Jacob, the kid I had met 3 days ago, sat next to me. "Who is she?? She's not like anyone I've ever seen. She's like, not from this world. You too. I don't understand," Jacob whispered. I sat upright, shocked. "What? What did you say? You're not supposed to know that."

"What?" Too late. I realized that I hadn't just shrugged it off. Sorry, Stella.

"Um.. just forget it."

"Are you going to the Ouija party tonight?"

"Stella is dragging me along."

"Really? Are you two dating?"

I blushed bright red.

"What are you talking about?" This boy was like no one I had ever met. He thought things that I didn't understand.

"The way you two act, it seems like you're her boyfriend."

"WHAT?!! That is the craziest thing I've ever heard."

He shrugged. "Not the strangest thing I've heard, Axe." For some reason, when he said that, it sent shivers down my spine.

"Why, do you like her, Jake?"

"She's not my type, at least not yet."

????What was Jacob on about? I was as mesmerized when this boy said things as much as when Stella said things.

Suddenly, we realized that the room had gone silent. "Anything you boys would like to share with the class?" the teacher asked.

Jacob and I blushed and hid our faces.

"Detention, both of you for the next period."

Stella Jade

I sighed as I completed my French homework in the first 8 minutes of class. I was still bored in this class, when suddenly someone asked me, "Is anyone sitting here?" I looked at my French homework and sighed again. "No. Just don't copy my answers and we'll be stellar." Whoever it was sat next to me.

The teacher got the class under control and told us all to get to know the person next to us. I really didn't like talking to idiots who shouldn't even be in this class. I turned to talk to the person sitting next to me and when I saw his face, my mind just when blank for a second. The person sitting next to me was prettier than Axel and hotter than Jacob. He had delicate cheekbones and beautiful light brown eyes with long eyelashes. His hair was the color of freshly fallen snow, a million times lighter than Axel's. Why was I comparing this beauty to Axel?!! And why am I acting like a young teenage girl?!! I've experienced more than this guy has!!! I really needed to get my thoughts under control. "Hi. I'm Stella Hass." I started. He gave me a warm smile of perfect white teeth. "I'm Nathan Tenebrisse—um, you can call me Nate—are you going to the party?"

"Why is that relevant?"

"I was just asking. Fine, guess I won't be nice to the new girl."

"Yes. What about you?"

"Sure. If you're there, I'll go."

I inhaled, checking that he was 100% human. There was something off about the scent that came back—he smelled like warm cinnamon and butter, as well as lilac, a scent I had only smelled once before—somewhere. There was something not quite human, not quite witchangel. It didn't unsettle me, as I thought it would. In fact it gave this boy a mysterious air. I rather liked it. The teacher muted us as he started on his long drone. Nathan was taking thorough notes on the way French verbs were used. After class, I was walking in the hallways to Social Studies when Nate walked up to me. "Hey," he said. I stopped in the hallway. I didn't know if I should turn around because I felt like I would be sucked in by those brown eyes if I even looked at him. I couldn't resist the urge to use my powers to read his mind. But, when I tried to get in, he blocked me out. I'd never seen that before except in Tarisa and Major. "Hey, I'm talking to you!!" he shouted over the din of students. I refused to look at him because I wouldn't be able to stay away. And that could be dangerous. I made my way to Social Studies and sat down. I slipped my bag over the blue chair and sat down. After everyone filed in and took their seats, I realized that Axel wasn't there. Where was he?
