Choir. Such a simple class. We all sat in a circle and the teacher asked us to come up with a poem about us. Mine was simple. It went like this.
Lights fall
Darkness rises
I call
She sizes
Me up
Like a sack of meat
In a cup
As I lay on the seat
She never sees me
Just what I could be
This poem was about Tarisa. She always saw what I could be to her, but she never sees me. Suddenly, the door opened. Axel and Jacob rushed in, out of breath. Axel's hair was sticking up and they looked so happy. I looked away. The teacher, Ms. Rayne, said, "Where have you boys been?"
Axel mumbled, "detention."
"Well, Mr. Woodard, go sit next to Jessica, and add a tardy to the list of things you have gotten today. Mr. Triveli, go sit next to Ms. Hass."
I sighed. I moved over and Jacob sat next to me. "So you are Stella Jade," he whispered to me. I ignored him and sat through Choir. After that was Lunch, and I sat alone. Jacob and Axel were giggling together. I pulled out my sandwich and nibbled on it. Then, Nate sat next to me. "Why aren't you even acknowledging that I exist, S.J.?" I still didn't look at him. "I can't, Nate. There's just so much that you don't understand and I can never tell you."
"Just be my date to the Ouija board party. No strings attached."
"Fine."
He jumped up like a young excited boy. He put his lunch box next to mine. I rolled my eyes and looked at him. Again I was transfixed. "So, S.J., what can you tell me about yourself?"
"My name is Stella Jade Hass, I was born in Salem, Massachusetts, raised in Wiltshire, UK, and I'm raised by two guardians."
"Really?"
"Yes, now tell me about yourself."
"I was born Nathaniel John Tenebrisse. I have two sisters, one older and one younger. I was born in Salem, New York, on Halloween. I'm being raised by family friends since my parents took off. My elder sister, Sienna, took off eight years ago, and my younger sister, Thalia Rose, is being raised by my aunt, who has this weird thing where she will only raise girl children."
"Tenebrisse, like Tenebris? That means Dark in English."
He stood up and walked away. He was so much different than the cheerful, seductive boy I had met in French. I had my own problems, I didn't want his. I looked over at Axel and Jacob, and they had turned serious all of a sudden, and I realized they had heard that entire conversation. I picked up my lunch box and walked over to them.
