The Thunderstorm

The sound of thunder rolled through the crisp late spring air. A girl sat wrapped in the black canvas of a duvet, staring out her window as a bright white spilled into the room, before disappearing all too quickly. Her grin lit up the room almost as much as the lightning had. Immediately she began counting.

"One Missi-" the soft whisper of interest was silenced by the low growls of thunder that soon turned booming, shaking and rattling the house. Locks of cream hair whipped around as the girl launched to grab her calculator, the over powering booms continue to make the very foundation of her soul rumble. The soft takking of calculator buttons hid under the thunder that began to give way to the pitter patter of rain falling to the ground.

"Point sixteen miles away... and it was fork lightning!~" excitement laced her tone as she scrambled back to sit in her window. Scratching down some notes she watched as for a moment bright light pooled the room again. This time there were no excited whispers, just the silence of rain, and the thunder rolling. Rosy pink eyes lie in wait as over the course of the next fifteen minutes light flashed into the room at random.

Soon, the thundering slowed and the rain softened. The scribbling of pen on paper gradually stopped. Sitting in satisfaction was the crème haired girl, writing a final storm time of just twenty minutes. She took a deep breath, a lingering soft smile sitting on her lips as she hunkered down in her bed. The blanket shifted with every little movement she made, tossed over her head with a small light on inside the make-shift fort. She'd claim she was asleep but she wasn't, not until she drifted into sweet unconsciousness, her thoughts not even fully finished on the page.
