I stared out the window, the trees whizzed by as we drove on the mountain side. We were traveling to Gran's house for the fourth time this week, we have been back and fourth for our pets seemings how three dogs, two cats and a garter snake in a car for five hours didn't seem like the best idea. I stole another look out the window before I felt I slight tightening on my wrist, Slithers, as I named him, was hungry, he hadn't eaten since brunch when we were back to the house.

"Mom, dad? Slithers is hungry, can we stop for a little break and I can get him something out of my bag?" The car began to slow as mom told me to 'feed the damn thing and get back in here!', they don't want me to feed Slithers in the car because he's kinda a messy eater. I opened up my door Slithers wrapped around my wrist as I spotted some earthworms on the ground and allowed Slithers to hunt. He was a rather fast eater, never took long for him to be satisfied. He slithered his way towards me and went to snake his way up my leg but I put my hand on the ground and he wrapped around that instead. I walked back to the car and got in my mom made and annoyed 'tsk' sound and dad gave me a halfhearted smile. We were almost there, I could see Gran's house in the distance. I see why she liked living up here, there weren't many people other than a few we passed on the way here and its surrounded by forest and in that forest a bunch of different animals lived. We pulled up the highest slope in the whole mountain and arrived at Gran's house, she was a sweet lady, but very, very old. We walked into her home and I walked upstairs because downstairs has an awfully pungent aroma, that apparently mom and dad couldn't smell. I sighed and walked to Gran's room, as I neared closer my walk became cautious steps, I heard loud chewing and smucking sounds. I peaked into the door and shockingly fell backwards as blood was spread across the tan walls and dripping off of, use to be, white curtains, and in the middle of it all was my grandmother slouched over the bodies of my three dogs and one cat. I assume that she hadn't gotten to Jasper, my other cat, yet. I shrieked,

"You're a monster! A monster!" She gnashed her teeth and growled, she jumped off the bed and I took off running. I heard her snarls and groans as I ran away looking for Jasper and Slithers. I passed my parents and saw something that horrified me even more then I already was, my parents, who loved Jasper more than any other pet, were sitting slouched over the hissing animal as they tore chunk after chunk of fur and flesh from him and stuffed it in their mouths. I quietly sobbed as I got past them, completely forgetting about my grandmother. I started to run as I heard her footfalls behind me.

"Come out hon," she called, her sickly sweet voice I knew so well had betrayed me,"I don't want to hurt you, we just want you to STAY, dearie, become one of us, and get rid of that awful snake..." She hissed the word snake as I checked my wrist again, looking at Slithers who was looking at me, his black doll eyes bore into my own green ones. I heard her rustling up everything she could get her hands on as I moved to the front door.

"You can't hide forever!" Her voice was now echoing inside my head, I exited through the door and leapt straight off the porch and down onto the road, hold Slithers firmly the entire time. His tongue flicked in and out of his mouth as he scented the air, if anything was near I knew he would warn me. I picked up my pace as I ran father and farther down the road I wasn't going to stop, not now anyway. I knew that eventually I would have to stop and rest, but seemings how I just saw, that, I wasn't stopping any time soon. I rounded a corner, but I over estimated and slipped, I rolled down the hill before I gained control of myself and stopped, I was huffing and bleeding as I check all of my cuts, seven, I had seven cuts all around my body. I sighed as I realized Slithers could have been hurt, I checked my wrist and saw a couple of his scales ripped and others cracked slightly. I let a few small tears roll down my cheeks and I pet him. I continued to run but as I did I found that I had rolled my ankle, I screeched in pain and fell once again, not as violently as last time, a small stumble. I made sure that Slithers was okay, he wasn't hurt anymore then he already was. I walked on but before I got very far I heard a loud rumble and looked up at the mountain, a rock slide was happening. I knew I wasn't going to be able to make an escape so I looked over the edge of the cliff and fell, down down down. I could here the rocks rolling off the same side I had jumped, I looked onto my wrist for Slithers but he wasn't there. I looked all around before seeing a dragon that looked a lot like Slithers fly my way, he caught me and flew me to the sky. We stayed this way, forever. Our bodies never found, to my parents my Gran or the police who arrested them shortly after I was gone. Yes I have indeed come to terms that I am dead, Slithers became something we both love, a dragon.
