Chris

How the fuck can she be so damn selfish. I thought as I was outside , smoking a cigarette, trying to clear my head. The thought of Reign, this loving , caring person not wanting to take in a child that clearly needs some type of guidance blew my mind. The way she spoke about him as if he wasn't her family. If it's one thing the military taught me is that you look out for your fellow man. I carry that with me til this day. I understand on a financial aspect but she's not the only one making money now. Little man will be fine. What I won't do I leave him with anyone else. People out here crazy. No telling what will  happen to him. He good right here.

As I took my last pull, I looked to my right to see a big light skinned man headed my way.

'Scuse me man , I was wondering if you could help me out? I was headed home from my sisters' house and my car shut off on me. Battery died."

"Need a jump. I gotcha man. Hang time let me grab the keys." I threw the cigarette on the ground and stepped in it to put it out. "Hang tight." I told him.  I walked back in the house to find Reign on the sofa, face stained with tears.

"Let me get the keys to the car please."

"For what?" She looked at me with confusion

"Need to give somebody a jump out here."
"So that's all? You don't wanna talk about that happened?"

"You gonna give me the keys or not? Buddy waiting to get home."

She sighed and gave me the keys. I turned to walk out the door , only to double back and kiss her forehead.
"We'll talk when I get back in the house, alright mama."

She nodded .
"Words."

"Ok."
I walked out the house and asked ol' boy where the car was and he pointed to this 2020 Honda sport.

As I pull up by his car, he tells me thank you.

"I been out here for an hour and you the first one to agree to help."

"That's crazy. Glad I did though. Luckily I'm a mechanic" I said as I connected the cables to the battery.
"Look at God."

I tell him to attempt to start his car, and when it started he smiled.

"Thanks again man." He reaches out to shake my hand. "I'm Joyner. Joyner Lucas."
"Chris Brown."

"Preciate that Chris. Aye, you don't hoop do you"
"Absolutely. I love it."

"Me and a few friends hoop on Friday's at the rec center. You should come through."

"Aight cool. What time?"

"5:30"
"Bet. I'm in there."

"Cool. See you then."

"Aight."

I turned the car off ,put the cables back in the trunk and locked the doors. Walking up to the door I said a quick prayer hoping this talk doesn't escalate to another argument.

I walked in the door and sat next to Reign. I opened my mouth but she beat me to it.

"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to react or talk to you in that way. I was wrong for how I said it and how I talked about Egypt. I just got scared because what if we are taking on too much too early? I don't want anything we do to overwhelm us. We just starting  out. I don't want us to fall apart."
