Sesshomaru's POV:
As Sesshomaru skulked down the corridor and towards his study, he felt increasingly irritated. His beast would not shut up, and his rational side was confused, too. Well, it didn't matter. Kagome was leaving after she saw Rin, and that would be that. And no, he did not get close to her for any other reason than to threaten her. He was, after all, a master at threatening people.Threats always worked better when people knew you'd follow through with them. And no one ever doubted Sesshomaru.
Sitting down at his desk, he glowered at the new stack of papers piling up. People never thought about the work he had to do to run the western lands. Treaties, alliances with other lords, and, yes, a whole ton of paperwork were all necessary to keep the peace in his lands. He sighed, looking at the latest reports:
"Twelve dead in the Karui province due to an unidentified demon attack."
Great.
"Carriages unable to travel between the Kentou and Shirei districts due to serious flooding. The main connecting bridge is damaged, and merchants are unable to sell their wares."
Just Perfect.
"The Southern Lord wishes to meet with the Western Lord to discuss the renewal of the Territorial Alliance."
Boring. Does everyone think I have nothing better to do than deal with pretentious rich assholes every day?
You are a pretentious, rich asshole, his beast reminded him. He was silent. There were also various invitations to gatherings, weddings, balls, and all other sorts of unpleasant events. Why did Sesshomaru have to handle all of this on his own? Well, in an effort to spite his meddling mother, Sesshomaru had refused to take a mate when his mother suggested it. If he had someone working with him, perhaps the work wouldn't be so dreary. There was no one else he could entrust it to. Jakken was incompetent. Rin was too young. And most of the guards at his palace weren't suited to office work. He sighed.
It made most sense to travel to the Shirei district first and have the bridge fixed, since that was closest. After that, he would go to Karui and destroy that unidentified demon. Then, he would return to his palace in the west and deal with that annoying Southern Lord who had been bothering him for months. Finally, after dropping Rin off at the palace, he would probably go confront Inuyasha's again. After all, now he had something to hold over the half-demon's head. Knowing that Sesshomaru rescued someone that Inuyasha held a claim to would enrage the half-breed to no end.
Kagome's POV
"Stupid silver-haired..." she muttered to herself. Finally dressed in the new outfit she had bought during her recent trip to the future, Kagome was quite pleased. The gold-plated mirror above the wooden dresser showed a completely different person. Well, not different. It was still Kagome, but she looked much more confident and self-assured. The black leggings she wore hugged her curves tightly, and she loved the blood red long-sleeve shirt she had picked out. It said BITE ME in big, black letters. It hid any traces of blood that seeped out from the bandages under her clothes. Her stomach ached, and the eagle demon's claws were still sharp in her mind. Every step she took was agony, and her only saving grace was that his claws hadn't been poisoned. It had only been a day since the attack, which meant that Kagome was nowhere near fully healed. She wasn't a demon, after all.I wonder who bandaged me, she thought. It couldn't have been Sesshomaru, obviously. Probably a guard or a servant or someone. As she stepped outside the room, a beautiful tanned woman with moss-green hair greeted her. She wore a pretty blue kimono, but the first thing Kagome noticed was her wings. Large, elegant grey wings were nearly folded behind the woman's back. After her recent encounter with the eagle demon, Kagome was in no hurry to befriend more bird-people.
