I'm a really detail oriented person sometimes and when I try to shift I often fixate on one aspect of my dr I'm unsure about, and for a long time it was my class schedule. I knew I wanted potions and herbology with Fred and George and it drove me crazy not having some outline in my head, so I spent two days working on a class schedule for all 7 years at Hogwarts. If you are shifting to Hogwarts and want a schedule outlined in your head feel free to use mine, I just want to give you guys the opportunity to use it since I put so much time into it.

I have a few things about the schedule to say first.

So astronomy was tricky because there are people in all seven years taking astronomy, which is taken at midnight. There are only seven nights in a week so in theory each year could have astronomy on a different night, but then you have 40 eleven year olds in a tower at midnight with one teacher, so I decided to split the whole system. So years 1-3 have astronomy at 12, and years 4-7 have astronomy at 1. The houses are split up until NEWT level in which there is only one class year 6 and one year 7. The NEWT level astronomy classes go from 1-2:30am on friday and saturday so students don't have to wake early for classes the next morning. As for years 1-3 each year has a time slot that they stay in all three years. For example my year is 12-1 on Fridays so that's when we have astronomy for year 1, 2, and 3. Finally I grouped the houses for astronomy classes based on their common room locations. I figure it would make more sense this way, so Ravenclaw and Gryffindor have astronomy together and Slytherin and Hufflepuff have astronomy together.

Next is electives, which are available starting 3rd year. Each student takes 2-3 electives (a minimum of 2 required) and electives occur once a week. Obviously there are issues with electives overlapping because of the limited time, so students cannot take both ancient runes and divination or muggle studies and care for magical creatures (with a few exceptions). If a student is only registered for two electives their third lecture period is a mandatory study hall, or they may attend office hours for another elective course.

Finally is NEWT level courses. Students must pass their OWLs to qualify for the NEWT course (based on each teachers standard). Students are required to have 6 full periods at the NEWT level, so if they do not qualify for 6 NEWT classes they must fill the empty periods with mandatory study halls. Study hall periods take place in the Great Hall among all classes and are supervised by a teacher to ensure students are productive (think of the scene where Ron and Harry were trying to find dates to the Yule Ball and Snape was not amused). Study Halls are also open to anyone with a free period, so if a student is taking 8 NEWT classes they can sit in on a study hall to get work done. I also want to note that teachers hold office hours from 4-5  three times a week. The office hours vary per teacher and are open to all students of any year (as opposed to elective office hours during elective periods, which are only open to 3rd 4th and 5th years.

The last thing I want to mention is that you can alter this schedule to fit your dr. For example if you're a Hufflepuff and want to have potions with the Gryffindors just switch the Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw schedules.
