"What's this word?" I point to the word that I'm having trouble with.
"Green," Carl tells me as he points to the word and sounds it out.
"Green eggs and ham." I read.
"I do not like them." Carl continues.
"Sam I am." We read it together.
Carl was healing and was well enough to walk earlier.
Carl was showing me how he learned to read in school.
"What happened to your arm?" He questioned as I adjust the sling.
"I fell," I tell him, signalling that I wanted him to leave it alone.
"Well, your arm is getting better but I want you to take it easy," Hershel tells me as he experimentally bends my arm and flexes it.
"Okay." I nod, smiling at him.
"I hear that you're learning to read." He tells me with a smile.
I nod and Hershel smiles at me.
"I think I have a spare bible you can have." He tells me.
"Thank you."
Hershel heads off in one direction while I head off the other.
I run outside where I see Daryl cleaning his crossbow.
"Hey!" I jump next to him on the log that he sat on.
"What did Hershel put in your cornflakes?" Daryl grunts. "Sugar? Cocaine?"
I ignore him as I watch him wipe the blood from his arrows. There were only two of them.
"Hey, Daryl."
"Hm?"
"Can I go with you today when you go looking for Sophia?"
"No."
"Please."
"I said no, kid."
"I just want to learn. How am I gonna protect myself when you guys aren't around."
"..."
"Please. I'll listen to everything you tell me to do. I'll be quiet the whole time if that's what you want."
"...' kay... you can come, BUT..." Daryl looks at me in the eyes. "You listen to everything I saw. You don't listen even once and your butt is coming back here, understood?"
I nod and Daryl sighs. "What did I agree to?" He mumbles. "Go get ready."
He shoos me off while he gets ready.
