Damien stood near the railing of the upstairs landing, fingers drumming silently against the cold steel. The lights from below cast him in soft gold, but his face was unreadable—stone carved with guilt and restraint.

Katrina approached slowly, arms crossed, blonde hair tied back from her face. She didn't speak at first, just came to stand beside him, the silence between them thick with things unsaid.

"I didn't know," Damien said, finally.

His voice was hoarse—less defensive, more worn.

"I didn't know you were her twin. Or Antonio's sister. I didn't know anything, not really." He glanced at her. "Kaia never told me."

Katrina nodded. "She didn't want you to."

Damien's brows furrowed.

"She wanted me to watch you," Katrina admitted. "Make sure you stayed loyal."

A beat passed. Damien blinked.

"Funny," he said. "She told me to watch you."

Their eyes met—years of silent missions, cold exchanges, measured trust finally aligning like jagged puzzle pieces.

A broken laugh escaped Katrina. "God, she didn't trust any of us, did she?"

"She trusted us," Damien said quietly. "Just not with each other."

They stood there in the hush, two people caught in Kaia's net even now, long after she was gone.

"I didn't know about Thea," Katrina added after a long pause. "I swear I didn't know Alexei would go that far."

Damien turned to face her more fully, something flickering behind his eyes—pain, regret. "Neither did I. We were tracking his movements, but he was always a step ahead. We got the alert too late."

"But we found her," Katrina whispered, her voice trembling. "We got her out."

Damien nodded. "Because of Kaia. Because she mapped every possibility. Even this one."

They stood in silence, shoulder to shoulder, the weight of their mirrored missions sinking in.

"She never stopped playing the long game," Katrina murmured.

Damien's jaw clenched. "She just didn't plan on losing it."

And neither of them had planned on losing her.

"You're right," a low voice said from behind them. "She didn't plan on losing."

Damien and Katrina turned.
