Day One
Tina
The crushing pain in my head feels like large hands squeezing at my skull with the force of a hydraulic press.
"Urgh..." I groan, attempting to open my eyes but that proves to be unsuccessful.
"Don't strain yourself, sweetheart." A voice says. This only startles me more as I try to move.
"Oh...you're a pretty one. Perfect for my garden." They say.
"Erm...wha...?" I mumble.
The voice laughs lightly. It sounds like a man. "The drugs are still wearing off. You'll be in tip top shape soon enough, dear."
Finally opening my stinging eyes, I see him, fear instantly enveloping me in it's nearly inescapable grasp like a thick cloud of darkness.
The spike in my heartbeat is muted by whatever drugs I'm on, but the fear is still very much alive inside of me.
"What's your name, kid?" He questions.
I open my mouth to answer for a moment before closing it again. I feel uncomfortable with him knowing anything about me.
He smacks my face and scoffs. "Well no matter. That was only a test of your obedience. I have your school ID. And...you won't be needing your name anymore. Abandon it. Because you are no longer Tina Ruth Belcher."
I blink in confusion. "I..."
The creepy man puts a finger to my lips. "Seymours Bay...I haven't scouted for new flowers there in a long time. You're definitely...a rose among thorns. A real beautiful specimen."
My hands shake as I adjust the glasses on my face. "O-Oh..." I whimper.
"Let's see here..." He flips through a scrapbook with dried flowers inside of it, each with it's own unique description.
"I've been watching you for some time, sweetie. And I think this one fits you best." He turns the book to me and points to a page.
The flower on it just looks like a weed at first, but upon further inspection, I see that the description calls it ivy.
"Dependence. Endurance. Faithfulness. Fidelity." He reads. "You're hopeful in the face of adversity. And you depend strongly on those you care for. Like...your father."
My heart skips a beat. "Dad..." I whisper.
"And that boyfriend of yours. Umm, Zeke is it?" He asks.
I don't confirm this for him, but he can tell by my demeanor that he's correct. Zeke...he was the last person I was with before everything...changed.
How did I get here? And where is here? "You look young for your age. I originally chose you because I thought you were a freshman...but you're sixteen, my goodness!"
"That's still young." I blurt out.
He frowns. "Don't talk back. I'll give you a pass for that one. But you're going to have to learn the rules here eventually."
