”Miss Marriott!” The sharp voice of her teacher abruptly brought Billie back to reality. She mumbled a quick sorry, even though she was sure the teacher didn’t care about whether she really was sorry or not. Mr Brown probably knew that Physics was one of the most boring subjects in existence.
Billie didn’t even try to pay attention. She knew that she wouldn’t understand a thing, no matter how hard she tried. It wasn’t that she was stupid or incapable of understanding complex problems, no. The problem was her teacher and his absolutely boring way of teaching.
Billie was sure that if she had someone else explain her the same things, she would understand them much faster and could actually do some of those unnecessary exercises that she was supposed to focus all her attention on.
No matter how hard Billie tried, however, her mind would always leave the classroom and wander a few doors down the hallway. In her mind she was in a different classroom, one she enjoyed being in much more.
Without her wanting it, Billie’s eyes wandered to the clock which hung above the thick wooden door which held her captive inside that dreadful classroom. When she realised there were still twenty minutes to kill, Billie groaned inwardly and looked down on her notebook again.
Despite everything, she couldn’t fight the small smile that made its way onto her face, superseding the grim expression that was prominent on Billie’s face until then. Like every other student, the young girl had been scribbling eagerly in her notebook whenever the teacher instructed his students to do so.
However, against Mr Brown’s assumptions, it weren’t physical formulas or additions to the notes on the blackboard that Billie scribbled down so eagerly. Her mind wasn’t inside that boring, grey Physics classroom filled with unmotivated students. She was in her own world and the scribbles in her notebook actually were no scribbles at all.
They were a sophisticated sketch of one of her classmates, something she would never show a soul. Not because she didn’t like her drawing, no. She was really proud of it, but she didn’t want anyone to know who she drew.
It was a very realistic drawing of the quiet guy sitting across the class. He must have been the only student being genuinely interested in what Mr Brown tried to explain to his class. The dark-haired boy probably also was the only student who understood what all those numbers and symbols meant.
Billie was fascinated by him. Something about him just made her smile.
This is just a quick teaser. It would mean a lot if you could let me know what you think. Anyway, thank you for reading this!
