Malfoy's friends couldn't believe their eyes when they saw Harry, Hermione and Ron were still at Hogwarts the next day, Malfoy, on the other hand, just acted surprised. Actually, in the morning the trio was only worried about what Neville thought about the dog and the trapdoor, Hermione left her doubt that de dog was protecting something, but the only thing that the boy implied is that he didn't want to run into the dog again.

A week later, after notifying his uncles about the events in the castle, absolutely everything (Draco had received a letter from them), and commenting on the broom he would receive from school, his uncle had been very graphic in his opinion of how he shouldn't receive a broom with the school budget or from a professor's pocket when he could either buy it or his uncle could simply give him one. But that day with the mail, his expected package arrived.

As the owls flooded into the Great Hall as usual, everyone's attention was caught at once by a long, thin package carried by six large screech owls. Harry was absent-mindedly but curious, looking at the package, and pretended to be surprised when the owls came down and set the package in front of him, knocking his bacon to the ground. They had hardly fluttered out of the way when another owl dropped a letter on top of the parcel. Harry ripped open the letter first, which was lucky, because it said:

DO NOT OPEN THE PARCEL AT THE TABLE.

It contains your new Nimbus Two Thousand, but I don't want everybody knowing you've got a broomstick or they'll all want one. Oliver Wood will meet you tonight on the Quidditch field at seven o'clock for your first training session.

Professor McGonagall

Harry had no difficulty hiding his joy, as he put the letter away he looked at his friends.

They quickly left the hall to leave the package in the boys' room, specifically, under Harry's bed, before the first class, but midway they met Crabbe and Goyle, who were blocking their way. Malfoy took the package from Harry and examined it.

"That's a broomstick," he said, throwing it back to Harry with a mixture of jealousy and spite on his face, at least that's what the other snakes saw. "You'll be in for it this time,Potter, first years aren't allowed them."

Ron couldn't resist it.

"It's not any old broomstick," he said, "it's a Nimbus Two Thousand. What did you say you've got at home, Malfoy, a Comet Two Sixty?" Ron grinned with mocking air. "Comets look flashy, but they're not in the same league as the Nimbus."

"What would you know about it, Weasley, you couldn't afford half the handle," Malfoy snapped back. "I suppose you and your brothers have tos ave up twig by twig."

Before Ron could answer, Professor Flitwick appeared at Malfoy's elbow.

"Not arguing, I hope, boys?" he squeaked.

"Potter's been sent a broomstick, Professor," said Malfoy quickly. His tone of accusation, but already knowing he wasn't getting him in trouble.

"Yes, yes, that's right," said Professor Flitwick, beaming at Harry."Professor McGonagall told me all about the special circumstances, Potter. And what model is it?"

"A Nimbus Two Thousand, sit," said Harry, fighting not to laugh at the look of horror on Malfoy's face. "And it's really thanks to Malfoy here that I've got it."

They headed upstairs, smothering their laughter at Malfoy's obvious rage and confusion. Mione also held back her laugh, the blonde was quite a dramatic actor.

At night Harry was only able to unwrap his broom. Sleek and shiny, with a mahogany handle, it had a long tail of neat, straight twigs and <<Nimbus Two Thousand>> written in gold near the top. An impressive piece, but nothing like his last broom that he didn't quite remember how he got it, but he had already put some of his money into that broom.
