He would never end up liking that place, he hated it, he hated that place and having to go. But what made him hate that place the most was that he had to go to see his son. His only living son.
And how it hurt to think that before there were more Blacks in the world. Now there were only two with the name and with their deaths the surname would die with them.
"You are very thoughtful today father." The voice came out raspy from shouting.
"Bad night?" he asked avoiding the question.
"It's always a bad night here." The youngest sneered.
"Soon, Sirius."
"Soon? Soon?!" he yelled showing his teeth like a wounded dog. "You've been saying the same for years," he claimed hitting the bars with his fist "Soon it'll be eleven years in this damn place."
"The House of Black didn't have influences, Sirius, we were frowned upon."
"And with reason."
"I didn't tell Regulus to take the mark," he growled, stopping his son's retorts "Neither did your mother, the fool believed that that was our wish, but that was Regulus' mistake, to think that we wanted that."
Sirius looked punished "I didn't mean to say that father."
"I know," the old wizard sighed. "I know you didn't mean that, but maybe if we had talked to you guys."
"It was the curse father," Sirius tried to reassure "It wasn't your fault."
Now he knew, it was the fact that Bellatrix took the mark that marked the Black Family, before despite their ideology they weren't crazy, Sirius himself had grown up as a fucking prince until he was classified in Gryffindor and still his situation wasn't so screwed up until his older cousin took the mark and sacrificed the sanity of the family lords thereby dooming the rest of the family tree saving those who were expelled, Narcissa was saved when she joined the House of Malfoy by marriage and she wore Lady's ring before the curse fully attacked her.
"I'm having your case reviewed by Madame Bones." He informed.
"Amelia?" he asked with a smile "She achieved her dream, I'm glad."
"You met her at school right?"
"Yes," he nodded "I was also with her in the Auror training, she is fair."
"It's what everyone says about her," he admitted "That's why I've fought for her to review your case and give you the trail that asshole Crouch denied."
"It's good to hear that." He smiled.
"Just promise me one thing son."
"If I can fulfil it in these walls." He scoffed.
"This is serious."
"I am."
The old wizard sighed asking his ancestors for patience.
"Promise me that you won't do anything reckless Sirius," he asked, taking the hands of his only remaining son. "Promise me."
Both pairs of grey eyes met, one darker than the others begging and the other not knowing what to say.

October arrived, spreading a damp chill over the grounds and into the castle. Madam Pomfrey, the nurse, was kept busy by a sudden spate of colds among the staff and students. Her Pepperup Potion worked instantly, though it left the drinker smoking at the ears for several hours afterward. Ginny Weasley, who had been looking pale, was bullied into taking some by Percy. The steam pouring from under her vivid hair gave the impression that her whole head was on fire.
