Chapter 17:

Liam’s POV

I walk down the hall to my locker, first period sucked, not that I’m bad because I’m actually pretty smart but anyone that thinks Algebra is a great way to start a Monday morning must be crazy. 6-18-98 (see what I did there) and the lock flies open I grab my science and history books and shove them into my bag while I close the locker I feel a buzzing in my pocket. It’s a text from a number I don’t know.

-Leeyum, how are u? I’ve missed you so much! Thank god I found your number-

At first I had no idea who it was and was about to reply a ‘who are you’ but then reading the text again I notices something. In this entire world there are only 2 people that spell my name Leeyum, one of them has blonde hair, blue eyes and an innocent personality drawn in with musical talent. Niall. But I have his number already and I saw him yesterday why would he miss me. Then it hits me. The other person…

I race down into the bathroom and lock myself in one of the stalls, I quickly go to the phone number the text came from and dial it. I wait a few more rings and I hear the familiar voice I’ve been missing for years.

-Hello? Nicole asks and I just sit there on the toilet not saying anything thinking back to 7 years ago.

I was about 9 and a half and I had never moved up until that year, I walked into the new school looking for someone to talk to, and at 9 years old you could say I was pretty smart, so it would always be hard finding friends. Especially, when you’re a good boy and don’t go around writing on walls or sticking gum on chairs. I’ve always hated fitting in, I’ll admit it I’m different, but the whole cliché and falling into certain slots already at such a young age was stupid. I loved singing and doing homework, I was your typical kid in the front of the class that would always say: “But Miss you didn’t collect last night’s homework” I got some death glares now and then but I didn’t care I was doing the right thing. So like I said I walked into the new school and went to room 22, here goes nothing. I walk in and the teacher introduces me, she looked confused as to why I was going in alone but I explained to her that I wasn’t stupid and knew how to count room numbers. She smiled at me impressed and I felt better, she was a very nice teacher. She pointed over to a desk next to a small girl, well not small but at the time, you get the idea. I sat down and noticed her for the first time, blondish brown wavy hair to her elbows, chocolate brown eyes much like mine, she wore jeans and a striped shirt, much like one of Lou’s, she had bracelets all over her right arm and a necklace that had a N on it. She was very pretty, but I’m not that different now than I was back then so I was shy and couldn’t keep up a conversation for more than 2 minutes. The teacher called us to go out for recess and I gladly left that room in a hurry, I was too nervous to talk to anyone so I decided to go outside and fine my spot.

My spot is a place I can go and no one will bother me, at my last school it was in a corner by the fence, with some shade from an oak tree I sat there a read all throughout recess. At the time in my new school I settled for a tree swing no one used in the corner of the greenery, then I felt someone push the swing and almost lost my balance. I looked over to find a little girl giggling.

‘Hi, I’m Nicole’ she said pushing me again so the swing would go higher. So that why she had a N on her necklace.

‘Liam’ I replied pushing up my glasses before they fell, yes at the time I wore glasses it wasn’t until middle school I got contacts because I hated my glasses. ‘Umm why are you talking to me?’ she looked pretty hurt about it.
