Chapter 2:

Liam POV

I walked into the auditorium thinking no one was there. I was new around school and if I was going to try and make some friends I had to do something.

Luckily they had a musical in mind for March and the auditions were just last week. I auditioned with Cry Me A River and I didn’t sound that bad. The only 3 people clapping were the 2 teachers running the musical and a girl I had met the day before. Her name was Danielle. She was beautiful, brown eyes, white skin, long wavy brown hair she had to keep brushing off her face. She’s the first person to talk to me and actually was the one who convinced me to try out. I liked her just because she made me feel welcome, maybe I had a chance with her…I don’t know.

I had moved from London all the way to Cheshire because of my mom’s work, I’ve moved 3 times throughout my whole life and it sucks. Once I make a friend, about 2 years later I’m leaving them and starting the whole process over again! I hoped this time it’d be different.

I’m standing backstage and I hear movement behind the curtain. I hear a voice, so perfect, so gentle, like a perfect melody, there was a bit of an accent but I couldn’t make it out right away. I’d heard the song before; it’s Dark Side by Kelly Clarkson. I’m standing off to the side of the stage and I see a small blonde boy about my age with a mic in his hand. So he’s the one with that amazing voice…I wonder if he was one of the few that got called back. He was nearing the chorus, and I couldn’t help it! I bet our voices together would be amazing…so seeing as it was only us 2, I decided to plug in a mic and get on stage with him. He shot me a confused look, glaring at me for about a full 10 seconds. Ocean blue eyes were the first thing I noticed.

I hoped he wouldn’t freak out, but as I walk up to him to join in the song his look just got more confusing. I sang anyway.

(AN: Whenever the characters are going into song, the lyrics will be divided by who sings what, Hope you like the story so far)

Liam:

Everybody's got a dark side

Do you love me?

Can you love mine?

Nobody's a picture perfect

But we're worth it

You know that we're worth it

Both:

Will you love me?

Even with my dark side?

I saw him start to regain focus, maybe he doesn’t mind. It started to become a game,  of us which has more dominance, I had total control at first but his voice got more comfortable with mine. Mine was still louder though and he realized this, almost echoing whatever I was singing.

Both:

Like a diamond

From black dust

It's hard to know

What can become

If you give up

So don't give up on me

Liam:

Please remind me who I really am

I hit the high note perfectly and saw him grin. He shot a look that read “No way am I letting you win”…I was fine with it. I always liked a challenge

Both:

Everybody's got a dark side

Do you love me?

Can you love mine?

Nobody's a picture perfect

But we're worth it

You know that we're worth it

Will you love me?

Even with my dark side?

Liam:

Don't run away

Don't run away

Just tell me that you will stay

Promise me you will stay

Niall:

Don't run away

Don't run away

Just promise me you will stay

Promise me you will stay

Will you love me? ohh

He hit all the notes perfectly and I have to admit. He was winning!! I didn’t think his range was that good, I was surprised. He had an amazing voice but battling it out helped him have more confidence. I liked that about him. The rest of the song was amazing, dancing in perfect motion, he put his foot in front of me claiming the stage and I did the same after a few seconds. If it were an audition we would have nailed it!

Everybody's got a dark side

Do you love me?

Can you love mine?

Nobody's a picture perfect

But we're worth it

You know that we're worth it

Will you love me?

Even with my dark side?

Don't run away

Don't run away

Don't run away

Promise you'll stay

We both sat on the edge of the stage. He got shy again and wouldn’t look at me.

‘You have an amazing voice’ he whispered. ‘I hope you get the lead, after hearing that I don’t think I stand a chance’ he grinned and turned to look at me. ‘Niall’ he said holding his hand out.

‘I’m--‘ I was cut off by some applause coming from the first row. Our drama and music teacher were there just smiling at us. Mr. Locke the music teacher got up and walked toward us.

‘That was amazing guys, it was truly a great performance’ He said. Niall and I just looked at each other confused. How many more people were here that we didn’t know of?

‘Thanks’ we said at the same time.

‘Mr. Payne you get the lead. I know there is another boy who hasn’t even sung yet but I don’t think anyone can compare to that voice of yours’ Ms. Marl said. She was the drama teacher. I felt bad. Niall got here early to practice and everything he deserves a part. Plus he was my friend now. At least that’s what I think of him.

‘Can Niall and I share the part? He did an amazing job and it wouldn’t feel right taking it from him. Every other night we’ll just switch.’ Niall looked at me shocked. I was happy though I bet he wasn’t expecting it. But his voice was just so perfect, it would have been a shame letting it go to waste.

‘I don’t see why we can’t make an exception’ she said. And the biggest smile came across Niall’s face.

‘Thank you’ he whispered. ‘Anything for my best mate’ I said. He looked at me and then tilted his head toward his hands, fumbling his fingers with his chinos. Did I say it too soon?

‘I’m Liam by the way’ holding my hand out. The look he gave me was indescribable. Next thing you know he’s laughing so hard the whole auditorium was filled it. His laugh was so addicting I couldn’t help but laugh as well. Seeing I was laughing he just laughed harder, grabbing his stomach and tilting his head back almost falling off the side of the stage.

Now I’m confused. What the hell was so funny?
