E-Day. The day everything went to shit. Those things called Locust sprung up from underground, killed everyone in sight. They tore down cities, destroyed towns, with no real motivation other than pure bloodlust. Hundreds upon hundreds of us were drafted into the army, unless we volunteered first. I joined 7 years after the fact, and was put into a team of rookies. It was no wonder they were all killed off as quickly as they were. Times were hectic, there wasnt alot of time to train. It was either learn on the mission, or die trying. This became a reoccurring event... Team after team, friend after friend, all killed. Even someone I held close, ripped apart by Wretches.

We thought the lightmass bomb would work, that it would eradicate every last one of those S.O.Bs.. We were wrong. While it killed off some, it just made the rest of them even more pissed. It was shortly after that, that Hoffman came to me with the good news. "A new team" he said, "One that hopefully will suit you better". What he really meant, was one that wouldnt die so easily. Hard to have that kind of faith nowadays. Yet, Hoffman was my superior. I was put where he wanted me, and there was no arguing about it. So that leads us to this moment. The moment I met Delta Squad. The renowned group of roughened up badasses, responsible for setting off the lightmass bomb in the first place. I only knew of one them, prior to meeting them. Marcus Fenix. Anyone not knowing about him most likely lived under a rock. Everyone knew of his trial, and of his father. The stories, the rumors, none of it was exactly a secret. A part of me was nervous to meet the killer himself, but the other part of me was more nervous to meet the rest of his team.

"Alright Private, this is it. There will be plenty of time for introductions on the helicopter. We need to get all of you out there as soon as possible." Hoffman said to me, motioning towards the Raven inbound. "Sergeant Fenix will fill you in on the details. It's a simple mission, something I know you can handle."

"You say that with every mission I'm sent on, sir." I replied, making sure my Lancer was fully loaded.

"And I mean it everytime I say it. Now, from here on out, you will report to Fenix. Hes your new squad leader."

As the Raven landed, dust blew in every direction. The door slid open, and inside was four men. Only four? Hoffman must be joking. They all looked roughed up, beaten around the bush if you will. None of them stepped off, and were looking at me, clearly waiting for me to get on. Hoffman slapped me on the back, pushing me forward. No going back now... not that I had a choice.

As I got on, I took note of the new faces around me. Marcus was easy to spot. Rugged face, that notable bandana.. and the scar across his cheek. Next to him was who I would soon find out was Dom, Marcus' best friend. He seemed the hopeful type, but I could tell there was a sadness to him. Something eating away at him. Across from them, was Cole and Baird. Two friends who would die for each other. Cole seemed thrilled.. Baird.. less so.

"I just dont understand why-" Baird began.

"Zip it, Baird." Marcus interrupted, turning to me. "Welcome to Delta, Private..?"

"(L/n). (Y/n)(L/n)." I responded, grabbing onto the door as the Raven took to the air.

Marcus nodded, "Alright. I'm Marcus. This heres Dom, Cole, and Baird. We're what makes up Delta Squad, and now, so do you. Now, I'll brief you on the mission. It's a basic search and rescue. Some of our men went to check out an abandoned stranded camp, and didnt come back. We're being sent to bring them back, dead or alive."

"Chances are, they were killed." Baird chimed in, "No stranded camp is just abandoned. It's either overrun by grubs, or still inhabited by bloodthirsty stranded."

"Jesus, Baird, have a little faith." Dom said, nudging my arm, "Dont mind him. Hes just grumpy because we woke him up for this."

I glanced over at Baird. He did look tired, now that Dom said something. Whether that was true, or if that's just what his face looked like on a regular basis, I had no idea. There was something intriguing about him though. He struck me as the joking type, the one who tried to make light of bad situations. I turned back to Marcus to finish the mini briefing.

"We know their last location?" I asked.

"Last we heard from them, they were in a building south of the camp. We arent sure if they stayed, or went back. We're checking the building first, and then work our way up to the camp. Hopefully we find something." Marcus replied, looking out the door.

"Think any stranded really are in that camp?" Dom asked.

"No.. but we'll find out soon enough." Marcus answered.
