The next few says were full of drills from Dr. Wasner. He wanted them to sound perfect and it was beginning to wear on the Captain's nerves. His children were mere children, not tools and singing was supposed to be something they enjoyed, not a burden. The children had grown content but as time passed the Captain began to rethink the whole situation in the first place.

Maybe it would have been better for him and Maria to get jobs, provide a more immediate security, especially for his growing family, but Maria wouldn't agree. She thought this seemed to be their calling, whereas the Captain knew his calling was to provide for his family. Thus, tension grew daily and was not helping the children prepare for the audition process at all.

Father Wasner also tended to rehearse more vigorously with the children specifically since the Captain had some training and Maria was usually technically correct anyway. He was adamant the children needed polishing.

"Alright, so have we decided what we are going to sing at the audition?" Dr. Wasner asked the family as they took a break.

"Can we sing Edelweiss please?" Gretl clasped her hands together.

"Yeah, that's a good idea" Kurt agreed.

"Plus we're confident in it" Liesl added

"No" Dr. Wasner said "choral is much more impressive, besides you have practiced your Bach piece so much already and sound good. It would be a shame not to use it." He explained with his hands.

"But-" Friedrich tried to intervene

"Listen to him" Maria said somewhat firmly from where she was cooking. This made Georg clench his fists a bit.

"The day after tomorrow we meet outside the building" Dr. Wasner reviewed

"Yes" the Captain responded in a polite enough manner. He had a good time but his wife could hear he was bothered.

"Very good" Father Wasner smiled "Goodbye children! Make sure to drink lots of tea" he rumpled Kurt's hair and left.

"Oh bother" Maria sighed taking in the tension in the room

"What is it mother?" Brigitta asked

"We need milk" she spurted "I forgot to grab some the other day" she brought a hand to her head "and I'm really not feeling quite up to it." She moved the same hand to her stomach.

"Liesl, why don't you all go out. It'll do you some good" the Captain suggested, more like commanded, his eldest daughter.

"Yes father" Liesl understood "We'll even take Johanna" she obeyed and picked her little sister up who at first opposed but soon became intrigued with Liesl's hair.

"Stay together" Maria told them

"Yes sir" Brigitta saluted her father but he was obviously not in the mood.

The whole family set out to buy some milk. Liesl held the baby, Friedrich had a hold of Marta's hand and Gretl was between Kurt and Louisa while Brigitta shared the lead with Liesl.

Of course they passed by the dingy auto repair shop with the van out front.

"I wonder if Carl is there?" Louisa asked gazing over at the shop.

"Oh yes, he's come to rescue his damsel in distress from the seven dwarves" Brigitta feigned drama and Kurt snickered at his sister who turned beet red.

"Oh shut it you two" Louisa told them

Just then a figure began running across the street over to them.

"Speak of the devil" Friedrich smirked.

"Hello von Trapps" he said wiping his sweaty face with his hand. "Excuse my appearance" he had a White shirt on with the sleeves rolled up but it was dotted with big black smudges that also covered his arms and face.

"Hello Liesl" he nodded

"Good day" she reciprocated only to be interrupted by Johanna. The siblings had gathered around him.

"Who is this little cutie?" He said reaching to pinch the baby's stomach which made the baby laugh.

"That's Johanna" Marta told him "remember?" She said as if was obvious.

"Oh I completely forgot" he acted surprised and brought a hand up to his head and knelt to the two younger girls.

"We can introduce ourselves in English now" Gretl said with enthusiasm.

"You can?!" He was happy for them while Liesl and Louisa smiled at the sight of how good he was with the little ones. Brigitta smiled too but it wasn't with the same affection as the other girls. Carl stood back up and reached out, "Good to see you Friedrich" and the two shook hands.

"You as well" Friedrich smiled. He liked having a guy friend closer to his age than Kurt.

"And old Kurt" Carl tapped the boy's hat "Brigitta" he nodded and Brig barely smiled. She intimidated him to be honest and she knew it.

"Where are you off to?" He asked, mainly looking at Liesl

"Mother needs some milk" Louisa answered quickly.

"Care if I join? My brother and I were just closing up" he said pointing back to the place with his thumb and looked in the general direction of the oldest two girls.

"Not at all" Friedrich agreed not only for his sake but for his sisters'. They walked to the store and Carl mainly talked with Louisa and Liesl, who had handed the baby off to Kurt. However, occasionally Carl would chat with Friedrich about something 'manly' or mess with the little girls.

He of course walked them back to the point of the shop at least. The whole time being gazed at by two pretty girls, one completely enthralled and the other a bit more skeptically but still kindly.

"Well von Trapps it's been a pleasure as always" he looked at all of them but concluded the statemen by winking at Liesl who began to feel her cheeks heat up.

Hey y'all. Talk about fluff. There are some details that will be addressed next chapter. I may post another one today but idk.
